GPU switch causing graphics issues on my new Retina MacBook Pro 15 (Mid 2015)

Every time I open or close Lightroom 6.1 (Lightroom uses the AMD R9 card) the computer will switch from the Iris Pro card to the AMD R9 card; and there will be some weird artifacts on the screen for some seconds, then they will disappear. The artifacts are like mouse arrow trailing, some black or odd colors on some areas in the form of small squares on the LCD, etc.

If I disable the Automatic Graphics Switching on System Preferences the problem will disappear immediately. Clearly it's related to the GPU switch process. I've tested the Laptop as well with Mac OS X 10.11 DP1 and DP2 El Capitan and the problem is still there. I've tried with other GPU intensive applications like Apple Photos and the same thing will happen.

Any idea how to fix it? is Apple aware of this situation?, I've read some articles from Oct-Nov 2014 but I would have thought by this time, 6 months later the issue has been fixed, especialy with a new laptop model (2015) and the latest Yosemite fixes.

Thanks

Okay, just got home from the Genius bar. Long story short: they're going to replace it!

Unfortunately, I have a CTO or a configure-to-order Mac and it's going to be a while. If it was a stock version, they were going to replace it right then and there, and I would've walked out of the store with a brand new machine.

They gave me a couple options since it was a custom order…..I can either buy the same one again, and then when it arrives I can take in the one that's messing up and get a refund for it. Or I can do the opposite of that: take it back to them, refund it, they’ll give me a gift card with the amount that I paid for the Macbook and then I buy it again, and wait for it to get built and shipped to me. And I think that's what I'm going to do. I would've done it today had I not had something going on all day tomorrow that I need the MacBook for. So I will probably do this as soon as I'm done with my even tomorrow.

So there you have it. I will say this, if it hadn’t been for those videos and pictures I took today, I don’t think this would’ve happened…because I cannot replicate it. It is completely random and intermittent.

I wish we could've just ordered another one in the store with the same specs, and then when it got in, I could've taken this one back to them and just do a simple swap...but whatever, at least they admitted it was a problem and are willing to replace it. I was a little worried they were going to say it’s working fine on all the tests (which it was, he tested everything and nothing showed that anything was wrong), unless you can make it do it, we can't help you. And I would've been SOL.

So good luck to everyone else. And here's to hoping the new machine doesn't have the same issue!

All the genius could do was guess what he thought the problem was. And he said he thinks it's the video card.

He was on the fence with getting it repaired, versus replacing the whole thing. So he was telling me since I got the upgraded one, what they do is take that upgraded video card and a raw logic board and they solder it on. He said they can't just replace the video card, it's a bigger deal. Not necessarily any harder repair, they just cannot replace just that video card. So they were going to send it in to the repair facility to replace the logic board, which would also replace the video card and hard drive since it's all soldered on together.

But when I said, but if it wasn't a CTO I'd be walking out of here with a new machine? Why can't we do something similar for my case? He went and talked with the manager and came back with the returning it option.
