I am unable to post a question in the iPad section

Hmmm, now I can. Well, there's some mystery here, then. I first noticed this problem on June the 9th, so I called Applecare about it. They told me that they had the same problem with this website, and that they couldn't post questions in the iPad section by using their iPad. The person I talked to said that he would pass the word along. Today, I experienced the same problem when I tried to use my iPAD. I found that while I could type in the title: "I am unable to post a question in the iPad section", I couldn't type in the box entitled "Summary of your question" (this box). My keystrokes just wouldn't regisgter here. Today, I had the same experience, and I called Applecare again. They had the record of my previous complaint about this issue.

I don't know where the problem lies, but here is a summary of the problem: Neither Applecare nor I can post a question in the iPad section by using an iPad. Now, the problem might be wider than that, but that's its narrowest manifestation. By that I mean that maybe I can't post anything here by using my iPad. Obviously I can with my iMac, since that's what I'm typing on now.

Is there something special about using an iPad to post quesstions here? Finally, I am not posting this question in the iPad section. Maybe that;s where the problem lies. Maybe it's only the iPad section that is causing the problem. Is that possible? Where's the problem, iPads or the iPad section of this website, or something else?

What you are describing is some sort of bug in Safari and the ASC on iOS devices. I almost never post in this community using anything BUT my iPad and that is what I am using now. The AppleCare rep is wrong.

When the keystrokes don't show up in the text box, try dismissing the keyboard and then invoke it again, Or try tapping outside the text box and then inside it again.

You can also tap the HTML button in the editor bar at the top of the text box. Start typing your response and the letters will appear. If you want to post a link or do any formatting, you have to tap the HTML button again to get back to the editing bar.

After yoju reply to demo's questions and once we have your current problem figured out, I would suggest the following:

You (or we can help if you tell us which ones) find the communities you are most likely to need, such as iPad, iMac, OS X Yosemite, etc.

One of us will post a link to every one of those for you.

You click on the link and then tell your browser to save that as a bookmark. Once you have all your bookmarks saved, you can then very easily use those to go from community to community and back again.

That is the way I use ASC on my iPad, my iMac, and my MBP and it has been the only way for me to work efficiently. I do not use all those hacks because I prefer not to and I find using the bookmarks very easy and straight forward.

I think I may have confused you. My excuse is that I had no choice. There are two questions:

(1) Why can't I type in the text box? That has been answered. The problem seems to be with my copy of Safari for iPads. There might be a way to fix that; in the meantime, I am using different browsers..

(2) what is the protocol for entering Apple Support Communities? Most of the time, I am eventually successful, but I'm sick of never knowing if I'll be able to get in. The fault is mine, no doubt, but I just don't know the proper procedure. i believe you mentioned some change that has made things easier for you. I have to presume that change is what is keeping me out.

To sum things up, what is the simplest, fastest way to enter Apple Support Communities?

Oh, here are the words you're looking for: "You are not allowed to create or update this content".

You should not get that message if you are logged into the community. I'm not sure why you see that. I hope babowa can shed some light on it.

The only protocol to entering the Apple Support Communites is to sign in and then enter the community. Tap on this link, find the community that you want to enter and then tap on that in order to enter. Bear in mind that a number of these communities have sub categories so for instance, tapping or clicking on iPod opens up 6 subcategories from which to choose.

Maybe if you describe your workflow when entering or attempting to enter the community, it would make more sense to try to help youmonce we have that information. Like babowa, I have a folder in Safari that contains bookmarks to the forums that I frequently participate in. That just seems to work best for me.

There is the thirty minute logout. You have to do some ASC activity every thirty minutes or you will be logged out. You may be running into this. When entering a reply, the logout should be nullified. Don't know if this works on ipad or not. Note: When creating a discussion, you must enter the post in thirty minutes or the post will fail with the not logged in message.

I create book marks for all the discussion I wish to use. Get your bookmarks from:

Site map of Communities and Categories

You may be able to benefit from some of this. It was created for a computer not the ipad.

How to improve your experience with Apple Support Communities ( ASC )

what is the protocol for entering Apple Support Communities?

The simplest way to "enter" - log in with your Apple ID and password - you can start at the main page:

https://discussions.apple.com/welcome

Click on log in and then proceed to either use a bookmark or click on one of the category icons shown.

Edit: didn't see that Demo had already linked to that page....

RE: your #2

I prefer to minimize my Actions. Here's what I do:

  1. choose an entry POINT - some favorite Forum's main list - mine is Using ASC (where this thread is nested)
  2. navigate to it
  3. choose "Login" from the top of the page
  4. BOOKMARK that Login page

  5. login
  6. do what ever you want
  7. logout (or just leave for >30 minutes)
  8. USE your BOOKMARK thereafter

here's a couple of samples for you:

To test these,

  1. logout
  2. tap one of the above
  3. enter your credentials (may be that all you need do is tap your Apple ID field [email addy] then tap your password field - I don't have an iPad to test, but desktop browsers are easy)

I'm not aware of any unanswered questions. Anyway, I think my only problem is to take the tight steps in the right order. As I've mentioned before, I don't know when I started having this problem, but I don't think it has been as much as a year.i just need to use the right steps in the correct order. I say this because I am almost always succedful in getting in--eventally. It's just that I just get fed-up sometimes and give up. If I have the proper steps in the proper order, I won't have a problem. You know: (1)------(2)------(3)----(4)-----etc.

i just posted a test message. It was easy. Unfortunately, it usually isn't. I'll try again. By the way, there is always the question of which community to use. Usually, thenre is a choice. Suppose, for example, I am using an iPad. I have Mountain Lion installed. I have a problem with iTunes, etc. Whicjh commiunity do I post to?

Jun 28, 2015 3:40 PM in response to Niku

Well, an iPad does not run Mountain Lion. iPads run iOS, so you post in the iPad forum.

Macs (computers, laptops) run Mac OS - Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite. There it depends if you think your problem has to do with hardware (the hard drive, RAM, logic board, etc) or software (any application/program).

So, to follow when you want to sign in:

1. Go here: https://discussions.apple.com/welcome

2. Log in

3. Choose a community and click on it

3a Or, use a bookmark you saved to get to the community you want

4. post your question

I am unable to post a question in the iPad section
