This situation is truly unacceptable.

Nobody (!) can change store easily and Apple doesn't seem to understand such an obvious flaw.

Hello Apple, we really have a problem and we are ones who are paying you.

Spotify is not the answer for me, I want to stay with Apple.User uploaded file

I just experienced same issue. Solution is pretty easy, you just need to find an app which is available only in Store of desired country, it will ask you if you want to switch to particular store, approve it and you are done. You don't have to wait till end of subscription. Hardest part of this solution is to find such app ;-)

I hope it can help someone even that original question is older.

Hey,

I had the same issue. Contact Apple Support and chat with them. They should be able to cancel your subscription from the backend. This will enable you to change country.

Every time you cancel at your end, the plan doesn't expire, because the days are still left on the plan.

If you need to cancel completely so that you should change country, contact Apple support.

I just got mine done.

Solution:

I had the exact same problem. The App store was for the US but my account was for South Africa. Here's the fix:

1) Go to settings and log out of your Apple ID.

2) Then switch your phone off and wait for about 3-5 minutes.

3) Switch your phone back on & go back to settings. Log in to your account as usual.

4) You may also have to switch on your iCloud Music Library too if you use Apple Music

After Step 3 It will say that your account is only valid for your original store & will switch you back to it. All your data and apps and everything stay there and everything should work as normal from there on out. Good luck! I hope this helps. :)

Hi everyone who are facing the same problem as i did before; I actually found a solution to this problem without having to wait 3 months till the trial period ends; I first open App Store and just tap on any app like I'm about to purchase/get it; then the "change store" does appeared and I tap on it; It then directly change store for me based on the country which it available. And yes, i'm able to do any purchase or download music in App Store, iTunes and Apple Music after that

Hello, I have the solution for this problem. This is the most popular thread on the 1th side on Google so I decided to share it with you.

After you canceled the Apple Music subscription and you'll get the error message "To change stores, you must first cancel your Apple Music membership" you have to do the following steps:

  1. Go to the App Store
  2. Click on the picture frame in the right upper corner
  3. Scroll down to sign out and click it
  4. Close the App Store
  5. Go to Settings -> click on your name on the top -> iTunes & App Store
  6. You will asked if you wanna change the store country after you tipped in your Apple-ID, so click on confirm
  7. done

I hope this help. I very happy because my Apple Music subscription expired in December.

Hello Thom, I recently ran into a problem similar to yours, I accidentally switched to the U.K. Store from the US store and could no longer listen to my Apple Music because of the store change. When I tried to change it back through the settings I had the message that I had to cancel my Apple Music subscription first. I didn’t want to do that so I thought I’d get out of the U.K. store how I got in. I found a link to an app only available in the US store and clicked on that link, I attempted to download that app. A message popped saying the app was only available in the US Store and asked me if I wanted to change stores. I clicked the change store button and it changed stores, I kept my subscription to Apple Music, everything went back to normal. So to change stores find an app only available in he store you want to be in and attempt to download it. Hope this helps!

I just managed to find a workaround for my case at least.. my home store is uk but it has changed to USA and I couldn’t change back even though subscription cancelled for Apple Music as needed to wait until November 24 2018 (today is 10th November )

1) Changed my password for iTunes using Apple.com

2) Signed out of iTunes on main phone

3)Signed in on another device (iPad) and then went to app stored and got the message “ this Apple ID is only valid for purchases in the UK store. You will be switched to that store” and pressed OK

4) went back to phone and App Store

5) singed in again with new password

6) the same message as in step 4) appeared; selected OK and then the store changed

Didn’t need to wait for Apple Music to expire - which is due on April 24

So perhaps just changing password and signing out and in again is good enough. You need to select an App then from the store that is the one you want to change back - eg I had set my phone to US by mistake before so chose An app to update that I knew I had downloaded from uk App Store previously to force the message shown in step 4/6

Good luck!

I know this is old but I had to respond. Earlier I had clicked on an app link I found and it said the app wasn’t available in my country so it asked me to change regions. Sure why not!

Fast forward a couple hours and I realize my Apple Music songs aren’t playing. Any song I purchased and downloaded would play. But streaming songs would just not play, with no error.

It then hit me that I had changed regions. So I found where to change regions but it wouldn’t let me while having an active apple music subscription. I canceled, but because my subscription was still valid for the remainder of the laid period it still wouldn’t let me change regions.

So I googled “iphone app” and in the list that returned, I just went through clicking apps as they auto launch the app store. Finally when I clicked on “Citi Mobile” it recognized I needed to have my country changed to United States. So I clicked the button to complete the change and all is good! I can now play streaming somgs like normal and have re-subscribed to Apple Music!

I have found a solution that works! I tried to download an app that wasn’t available in the US store so I changed to another country. After being frustrated that I couldn’t listen to anything I downloaded with Apple Music, I tried to change my country back to US. The settings told me I had to wait for my subscription to be cancelled, pretty much like everyone else here. So, I decided to try and download Spotify so I could at least listen to some music while I waited. Turns out Spotify wasn’t available in the App Store country I had changed to (Japan), and when I tried to download it notified me that the app wasn’t available in this country and asked if I’d like to change my store country. Clicked yes and it worked! This may be a loophole! Let me know if it works for anyone else.

If the Apple Music is on Trial on the iPhone, the only option from customer side is to turn off the auto renewal. In order to change the Country/Region in the App Store the Apple Music must be canceled. So, basically to cancel the Apple Music Trial, we have to contact Apple Support and ask them to cancel it from their end. Remember, if the trial is canceled once, there is no way to get the trial subscription again in the future.

So, if switching the store is kinda mandatory for you, you have to contact Apple Support to cancel the subscription from their end and they'll do it right away.

Hi, I do not often reply, but I came across the exact same issue, but did not want to cancel my apple music, so i have a work around, but i understand this won't be the case for everyone.

I am in the UK, I was asked by the applestore to change to the US store, which I did, and then I was stuck on trying to change it back to the UK. Here is how I achieved changing it back without cancelling apple music. I had app updates that I had not done for awhile, (as I have not got auto updates turned on) they were a few banking apps and UK'ish apps. When my appstore was set to USA, I clicked on my UK banking application to update, it prompted me to change to the UK appstore, I clicked OK and then it changed my appstore back to UK. It did not then auto update my banking app, it is still waiting for me to click update.

Yes this is a huge pain to say to everyone, hey leave some applications in your "updates" section, so you can change appstores, but I am unsure of any other way.

Hope this helps somebody who was as frustrated as me.
