Hello, I have the solution for this problem. This is the most popular thread on the 1th side on Google so I decided to share it with you.

After you canceled the Apple Music subscription and you'll get the error message "To change stores, you must first cancel your Apple Music membership" you have to do the following steps:

  1. Go to the App Store
  2. Click on the picture frame in the right upper corner
  3. Scroll down to sign out and click it
  4. Close the App Store
  5. Go to Settings -> click on your name on the top -> iTunes & App Store
  6. You will asked if you wanna change the store country after you tipped in your Apple-ID, so click on confirm
  7. done

I hope this help. I very happy because my Apple Music subscription expired in December.

I have found a solution that works! I tried to download an app that wasn’t available in the US store so I changed to another country. After being frustrated that I couldn’t listen to anything I downloaded with Apple Music, I tried to change my country back to US. The settings told me I had to wait for my subscription to be cancelled, pretty much like everyone else here. So, I decided to try and download Spotify so I could at least listen to some music while I waited. Turns out Spotify wasn’t available in the App Store country I had changed to (Japan), and when I tried to download it notified me that the app wasn’t available in this country and asked if I’d like to change my store country. Clicked yes and it worked! This may be a loophole! Let me know if it works for anyone else.

Is this for real?

3 years and over 2300 replies later and nothing has happened?

I've just moved back to Australia from UK and need to re-download the ANZ App for Australian Store. I also have a yearlong subscription for Apple Music expiring in April 2019...

So this is saying I have to wait until then to be able to do necessary banking procedures on my only phone? No ******* way. Apple should be ashamed. I am never endorsing or buying any of their products and services again. This is the final straw as a loyal consumer after 10+ years. I am done.

Can I not simply remove Apple Music from my phone so it doesn't have to wait out for the expiry? I really desperately need to access that app on this phone.

Hey ! I just had this problem I did it by accident. I searched for a song and it wasn’t available on the au store so it took me to a Japanese store and I accepted not thinking and I had no music left on my acct that I had saved, 4 years worth ! Anyway I searched another song via google, I put for example “mercy by Shaw Mendez AU ITUNES” and it came up, I clicked it and it restored all my music I dont know if it’ll work for everyone else but it did for me thank god !!

I just managed to find a workaround for my case at least.. my home store is uk but it has changed to USA and I couldn’t change back even though subscription cancelled for Apple Music as needed to wait until November 24 2018 (today is 10th November )

1) Changed my password for iTunes using Apple.com

2) Signed out of iTunes on main phone

3)Signed in on another device (iPad) and then went to app stored and got the message “ this Apple ID is only valid for purchases in the UK store. You will be switched to that store” and pressed OK

4) went back to phone and App Store

5) singed in again with new password

6) the same message as in step 4) appeared; selected OK and then the store changed

Didn’t need to wait for Apple Music to expire - which is due on April 24

So perhaps just changing password and signing out and in again is good enough. You need to select an App then from the store that is the one you want to change back - eg I had set my phone to US by mistake before so chose An app to update that I knew I had downloaded from uk App Store previously to force the message shown in step 4/6

Good luck!

3 years this has been going on it seems? Disgusting.. Same problem for me only I rang Apple Support and unlike some people on here was told they couldn't help and couldn't change the subscription to inactive. I had to wait until it was expired. No warning when you take the trial you're fixed to one region.

I assume they do this on purpose - to stop people easily flicking between locations and getting different Apple Music Content right? But to not provide a way of support removing the service so that you're not asking to keep it - YOU WANT IT DELETED so you can use your phone (even though this would be LOSING a service you still have a right to use) they instead render your phone useless until the subscription expires.

Apple.... If people could be bothered to take you to court over this one - I'm telling you you would lose. This is the worst one yet.

Problem solved!

TShourbagy posted the very simple solution way back in July 2015 i.e. call Apple support and ask to have the free trial cancelled. Easy.

It took me all of 5 minutes to call them and have them cancel my free Apple music trial subscription. I was then able to change my app store country unhindered.

It beats me why over three years later folks are still saying there's no solution. There is a solution, and it's simple.

This solution from TShourbagy worked for me too! Thank you for the advice!

The first few assistants told me nothing could be done, but because of this post I persisted and told them to keep asking. My query went up the chain and eventually was passed to the Engineering Dept. I was told they would get back to me in 24hours with a solution if they had one. About a day later, I had an email from apple saying my problem was solved and I can now change my region. Which was correct, they fixed the problem. It CAN be done.

Thank you TShourbagy.

I can confirm that Apple can 100% fix this. I just used the Apple Chat support and they allowed me to switch countries. Took about 5 minutes. However, I was also on the phone with Apple earlier today for about an hour and they said they couldn't fix it and they told me to just let the subscription run out. So it depends who you get. I also sent the support person on the chat a link to this forum. Not sure if that helped at all or not.

Cheers

This is cazy. This thread started in 2015 and this is still not fixed in 2019?? Incredible. Are apple user meant to be sedentary individual that are not relocating anywhere else in the world? I have two phone UK and NZ and need both apple store to update new release of various apps including banking, transport,... Apple you are not making it easy for people like us. #getittogether
