Siri not working over LTE in iOS 8.4

I updated my 5s (AT&T) to iOS 8.4 this morning. When I tried to use Siri to voice dial (or anything else) the phone either didn't respond, responded with a list of things I can ask, or (finally), Siri saying "It seems I've lost my internet connection." But, I wasn't even trying to use the internet to make a call. Also, other internet apps work. Siri works fine over Wi-Fi, but that does not help when I'm driving.

Anyone else having this issue?

i have no mobile data at all On any of my phones . We have 4 iphones . No maps , no data unless under wifi!!! The awesome ATT REPRESENTATIVE have me directions to get home from the unfamiliar area I was in. THIS IS NOT A ATT ISSUE IT IS AN APPLE ISSUE! Their server are not connecting with the new update to anyone with Att mobile data !! How to prove this is download google chrome and magically your data works !!! Any Apple based application is not working ! Frustrating because apple is propriety and they won't admit this huge mistake !!

Yes but as I said I can cut off the cellular connection and nothing changes as long as wifi is available while the device is locked. Plus my wifi only iPad picks up emails, messages, etc. while locked. All of my devices do. I can see the data usage for each device that has cellular usage and it's nil when wifi is available. Such as with Airplane Mode enabled. Either my devices have a quantum connection to the Internet while locked or they stay on wifi.

That's always been my experience.

They better pray they fix this problem immediately ! If my children can not contact me while at camp for an emergency I will be one angry mom let alone apple customer !!

You are correct and bring up a good point about your WiFi-only devices still getting timely notifications (obviously they're not using cellular).

Everyone else needs to read up on WiFi beacons and how they function with iPhones. iPhones DO use WiFi when asleep—the same way that WiFi-only iPads do it. The same way that iPhones without SIM cards do it.

And if I shut down a device or cut wifi off it drops right off Airport Utility regardless if it was connected just seconds ago. Cut wifi back on and it magically reappears. Whether that proves anything I don't really care because only using available wifi when my devices are locked all the services function. Maybe there is a quantum event taking place.

That's the way it has always worked for me. But you know we have a lot of neutrino emissions in Baltimore so who knows 🙂

Correct.

Your device listens to beacons from your router and only "fully" wakes up its WiFi radio and components when there's a notification. So technically, yes, it disconnects from your WiFi network but is still listening to beacons (which consumes very little power).

As a test, turn on Airplane Mode and then enable WiFi. This turns off your cellular connection but keeps WiFi on. Put the phone to sleep and it'll disconnect from your network in a few seconds (assuming you're not downloading anything). Send a text or email from another device and your phone should receive it almost immediately after receiving the beacon and waking up the WiFi radio. That's your "quantum event".
