Music streaming slow for anyone else?

Since the first day, Apple Music streams (any song or station) have been incredibly slow. At first I assumed it was from high initial demand, but even now, most of the time the service is barely working for me. I'd estimate that 10% of the time things work perfectly, but 30-40% of the time songs can take 30 seconds to a minute to start playing, then they play choppy (as in not buffering enough). The other 50% of the time nothing even starts playing.

The obvious culprit might sound like my internet connection, but I can say that I don't have problems streaming online videos or Spotify – ever.

Restarting iTunes and my computer doesn't seem to improve the situation either.

Anyone else having issues?

Hi,

Same Problem Here! And now it is happening in all my devices, iPhone 6 and 4S, iPad 3, iMac and MacBook...

At first everything was OK... This issue has started for a couple of day ago.

My Internet is fast (100mb/s), and I verified that the TuneIn and Spotfy are working perfectly!

So definitely the problem is in the Apple Music!

I have seen this issue, generally either a very slow start to the first song in an album/playlist or more often when trying to skip several songs. But it happens so infrequently (on my iPhone 6, iPad Mini 2 and iMac) that i just shrug it off as a momentary glitch. If it happened as often as it seems to be with some people, then I might be more upset.

Of course it works in Germany,, all the best people are there 🙂

So, i've done a clean install of El Capitan 10.11.1, and *not* upgraded iTunes.

by default, u get version 12.2.2, (which for some reason doesn't seem right. for 10.11..) i honestly thought it be at least version 13.1

In any case, been using Apple music fine and no slow downs at all ..... no choppy, nor attempted to playing other things.. It just work as expected.. so i can also assume any older version of itunes works fine too... just as long as u *don't* upgrade to 12.3.1

So, from my stand-point its iTunes issue. However its not not smooth sailing.. I still get the "Your subscription has expired." and a sign out and back in temporary fixes this.

Got back with a senior adviser with ticket escalated to engineers, and they told me they are aware that there are problems with Apple music, and fixing them with servers in the next releases of iOS and iTunes. (album art too).. Not sure if that would be next updates, but at least we know these will be coming.

Too bad Apple doesn't t read these forums otherwise they would have know all this 😀 oh well..

Unfortunately, u can't do this with iOS.

Sadly, I'm still trying to use the service daily, but my situation still hasn't changed much. It works decently for part of the time... often times songs start in a few seconds (quite a lot slower than Spotify, but well, at least they are playing), and I'm not getting as much choppy playback in the last few weeks. But there are many other complete failures. Browsing albums, stations, and playlists works reasonably well, but very often when I drill down to a specific album or playlist, that page won't ever load. It's been so annoying that I mostly use the radio stations, but even those will randomly not start, or they will stop randomly, then they won't start again.

Apple Music is borderline unusable for me in Germany for the last couple of days! Songs take a couple of minutes to start (if ever) and then continuously stop for buffering, extremely annoying. My internet connection is fine though, so it is something wrong with Apple's servers. If they don't fix it within a couple of days (or at least acknowledge the problem), it's back to Spotify I guess...

I too am noticing an improvement, but still having some problems. Late last night, again, a track would not stream. I am currently subscribing to both Apple Music and Spotify, and I had to switch to Spotify to hear the track I wanted. My suggestion to Apple would be: Carefully analyze everything that is good about Spotify on both iOS and OS X, and then match Spotify in every way both as to performance and as to usability. I think that Apple Music's interface is decidedly better than Spotify's, IF the performance issues can be fixed, if not, Apple is going to have a hard time getting Apple Music to grow. Another problem I have on iOS, that is not related specifically to streaming speed, is that it is hard to tell for sure whether a track is downloaded for offline use or not. Spotify makes this very clear, and Apple Music makes you deduce it by looking at the drop down menu, except that an indicator icon does appear for individually downloaded tracks and for your own music from your iTunes collection. Apple is capable of fixing all these issues quickly and they need to do it.

Make sure to use iTunes version 12.2.2.25 and watch all your problems go away. I had days and days of problems, until I rolled back to a previous version of iTunes. The latest version is a mess and is causing these lagging problems, and issues with songs pausing. Since rolling back, I have been listening many, many hours a day, at all times of the day, and not had a single hiccup.
