Music streaming slow for anyone else?

Since the first day, Apple Music streams (any song or station) have been incredibly slow. At first I assumed it was from high initial demand, but even now, most of the time the service is barely working for me. I'd estimate that 10% of the time things work perfectly, but 30-40% of the time songs can take 30 seconds to a minute to start playing, then they play choppy (as in not buffering enough). The other 50% of the time nothing even starts playing.

The obvious culprit might sound like my internet connection, but I can say that I don't have problems streaming online videos or Spotify – ever.

Restarting iTunes and my computer doesn't seem to improve the situation either.

Anyone else having issues?

Hi,

Same Problem Here! And now it is happening in all my devices, iPhone 6 and 4S, iPad 3, iMac and MacBook...

At first everything was OK... This issue has started for a couple of day ago.

My Internet is fast (100mb/s), and I verified that the TuneIn and Spotfy are working perfectly!

So definitely the problem is in the Apple Music!

Yes, today streaming seems to work fine and as it should. Basically always instant playback.

Apple Music still sometimes behaves strange. It plays songs from an album and suddenly tells me that one particular song can not be played, because I am not logged in, which I am of course.

Well....let's see how it will work in the days to come. I am not trusting it quite yet.

Same issue: started 5 days ago (possibly together with iOS 9.1 and iTunes 12.3 ?) and now Apple Music does not properly stream anymore on any of my 4 apple devices. I called Support but they could not help me and suggested I'd send an email to iTunes Store Support.

Very unhappy with this: I expect an extension of my subscription. I'm not paying for something that doesn't work!

mine is still completely slow. i just tried to stream a song. the song stopped ten times in the first 20 seconds of the track. just tested at 35 mb/s download speeds. my whole computer slowed down dramatically after the first update to el cap. i wonder if any of this has anything whatsoever to do with spotlight indexing or if it's just burden on the apple music servers. super annoying.

I'm quite sure there's nothing you can do on your end. I've been experiencing this issue on 4 apple devices, including OSX and iOSX. The problem is also not a burden on Apple's music servers. It seems that a few of them (otherwise a lot more people would complain about this) have throttling issues. They are misconfigured and as a result their connection with your device is too slow. They simply send the songs too slow to your device: slower than the rate needed to play them. This explains why buffering is so slow and the songs stop at regular intervals, like every 2 seconds.

This is just speculation, but either they need to reconfigure the affected servers, or you should be lucky enough to switch to another server. Cause apparently we are always connecting to the same ones. I already tried logging out and in again, but that's no solution.

This morning I played 5 songs that did not play yesterday, and they're fine now for me.

I have been using Apple Music a lot over the last couple of days here in the UK and it is working perfectly, no issues what so ever on any device. What a difference to last weekend when it was completely unusable, lets hope the bad times are behind us and we can move forward and enjoy this service with complete confidence !

mine appears to be working now as well. Instead of a song pausing to buffer ten times in the first ten seconds of the song, i'm buffering the entire song in ten seconds. strangely sporadic, however. i thought it was fixed a couple of days ago, then it wasn't and now it's working a lot better. who knows. probably will revert again at some point.

I have had had no problems with Apple Music until last Friday.

Last Friday it was terrible, I could not stream hardly anything. It improved a bit over the weekend and I thought the problems were behind me, but now it is doing a similar thing. Some streams just sit there buffering for ages, so I cannot rely on the streaming side of it.

The only way around it is that if you add the music to your library then make it available offline, if it downloads slowly, pause it, and reload the download in about 5-10 seconds and it will download at normal speed again.

It is not just Apple Music I have problems with recently. Last week I had problems with the Mac App Store, the iOS App Store and the iTunes Store. Whatever temporary fix they seem to do works for a few days and then goes back to the way it was. There is something more serious going on and Apple needs to fix it, especially as I am paying real money for the family plan.

I thought it may have been the Time Machine backups to Time Capsule slowing it down, but turning off Time Machine temporarily did not help either. My bandwidth is fine. Everything else works fine and when it does work it downloads from Apple Music very fast.

There was news yesterday of Apple now having $200+ billion in cash reserves. There really should be no excuse. Apple can afford the best engineers and servers to work on this.

I’ve given up, cancelled my subscription after one week. I can’t play any songs for more the 10 seconds without them stopping. I have a 200Mb down 70Mb up connection. I do not pay for Spotify but tried the free version, music plays instantly.

Also, just navigating the iTunes Store is painfully slow, having to wait 5-10 seconds for each page to load, I just get coloured outlines of the boxes at first. Scrolling is awful on my 2015 rMBP 15 inch.

Nothing has improved since I tried the trial when I signed up on day one of the service launching. Took a month off and decided to try again.

3 days of unusable Apple Music, which used to be fine. Like some others in this thread the first track tends to download quickly enough then typically very slow with lengthy pauses and very occasional seamless, good tracks.

I am in the UK on fibre broadband with Family subscription and Apple Match. Latest version of OS X & iTunes on the mac and latest iOS but having same problem on iphone and ipad.

26 minutes on the phone to Apple Support yesterday did not provide a diagnosis let alone cure. I put Spotify back on the ipad today and worked like a dream for both audio and their video suggesting the problem is either the Apple servers or the Apple apps.

Doubly annoyed as the recommendations were starting to become useful as is the ability to play from lists of hit tracks and albums a la Spotify.
