iOS 8.4 battery drain

I seem to be witnessing a drastic battery drain after the update to iOS 8.4. It's pretty bad, but I don't see anyone else talking about it.

iPhone 5, iOS 8.4, null

I have had the same issue with iOS 8.4. After a off/on cycle I found apps were consuming power due to "Background Activity". Here's the thing... my BA setting is OFF :-D

I am testing a fix - I'll post back if it works - here goes with the experiment:

  1. Settings > General > Background App Refresh > ON ... and turn on every app that's listed too.
  2. Power down the phone.
  3. Power up the phone.
  4. Use the phone or standby for a few minutes.
  5. Launch an app that was consuming battery due to "Background Activity".
  6. Settings > General > Background App Refresh > OFF.
  7. Charge the phone to 100%
  8. Monitor the battery usage over the next 24 hours (Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage)
  9. See if the Usage and Standby times are the same or different and watch for "Background Activity" from apps.

Apple dropped the ball here... very poor quality control.

Wow Gimmick .. that is WILD ..

I went to Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage.

It says I only have 15 hours of life on the battery at 96% full ... as of 2 minutes ago.

I just checked and I am now down to 94 % ...

90 days ago battery power on standby was 38 hours as I recall.

Battery Doctor App who people tell me it is a crap App .. well Battery Doctor tells me that Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Mail, iBooks, Podcast are all using power.

Those Apps are in the system or required to have by Apple and can not be deleted as you no doubt are aware ... and I have never used them, and they are turned off in the Settings controls ... yet they are sucking power and in use.

I am guessing they are sending my location to Apple as ... location is the high power drain ... according to Battery Doctor in its usage report.

This is a brand new out of the Apple Store 5s/32 .. with just a few cycles on it and is only 90 days old while in very light service.

The Battery since manufacture is perhaps 2 or 3 years old .. I dunno but that can be figured out in the records.

I agree with you .. the iOS update has to be a bad one.

Or some how .. it is Manufacture as the battery no matter what the usage .. only lasts so long.

I hear it is 12 to 15 months by some reports.

My battery has been in storage for that time I am sure ... and if it is manufacture .. then I am hitting the danger zone so to speak.

Wonder if they heat up .. they gonna catch on fire.

Usually have to put them in a pile like in an Airplane and then with them together in a critical mass they ignite.

They say Volts hurt and Amps kill ... only takes 7/10 of an Amp to kill a person.

I like to keep a distance from electronic devices because of that prima facia irrefutable fact.

😕

Philly_Phan, I answered that earlier... about six hours of light usage and some short phone calls over 1.5 days.

Please note: Since I removed Facebook my phone has only burned 1% in 2 hours and is showing "usage at 6 minutes". That is what I expect when I'm not using the phone.

This is clearly a bug in FB and iOS contributing to background activity despite it being switched to OFF.
