iOS 8.4 battery drain

I seem to be witnessing a drastic battery drain after the update to iOS 8.4. It's pretty bad, but I don't see anyone else talking about it.

iPhone 5, iOS 8.4, null

Nope to that question Jaminnesota ...

You MUST have and can not delete Apple Apps like iBooks, Podcast, Health, AppleWatch, Stocks, Game Center, Videos, Reminders, Mail, Music, Safari, iPhone App store, iPhone iTunes store, et cetera.

Why you must have these no delete Apple Apps you never use nor want; and in this case are bringing financial damages to your person and property that you seek relief from the unauthorized use of your iPhone ... is considered a non-technical question and can not be addressed in the Support Community.

Hi all,

I too have been experiencing terrible battery life ever since 8.4. I would go to bed with the battery fully charged but wake up with the phone having died. I tried all the tricks that you come across online but to no avail. My battery usage also showed Facebook as the greatest percentage of usage so I deleted the app but that didn't make a difference. I logged out of iTunes and that didn't make a difference either, and it woul log back in whenever I used the App Store or anything account related. This evening I looked up in settings > music and saw the "show apple music" button. Since turning it off and restarting i've charged the phone completely and the battery life seems to be back, and the phone isn't heating up anymore (it had started to get really hot, indicative of some over processing). Also - I have subscribed to the free trial of apple music so that would have kept iTunes busy.

Hopefully it'll last the night - will report back soon.

Cheers,

Ayush

And when you went to Settings/General/Usage - Battery Usage, what app was responsible for the battery depletion?

That issue aside, you should really plug the phone in when you go to bed. And you should enable automatic iCloud backup. Leaving it plugged in means it will use WiFi instead of Cellular for any background data transfers (WiFi is off when the phone is asleep and not plugged in), and it will back up automatically over WiFi when connected to power and WiFi.

Been having Iphone 5c problems after ios 8.4 update. It chrashes randomly and indicates empty battery despite fully charged battery. It happens several times a day. Must plug it to a charger to restart the phone. This also happened on sister-in-laws 5s after update ios 8.4. Did restore the phone on Itunes with Apple Support online but the problem remains. Anyone having same problem?

There is nothing you can do if you update it to 8.4, almost everyone experience terrible battery drain.

On what do you base that excessively broad supposition? Some people have battery issues at any give time with any version of iOS. When iOS 7 came out, there were people who complained it caused excessive battery drain. When iOS 9 comes out some people will say that's causing their issues. In the vast majority of cases, that's not the problem. However, I admit, it's much easier to wait to see if the next version of the software fixes the issue than to do the troubleshooting. And, if the problem is a misbehaving app, the problem may go away with the next iOS version because the developers have fixed the app.

I tossed away all my Apps from the iTunes iMac store (not the same as the iTunes iPhone store) that were using Push Notifications to bring me advertisements that are unreadable the font is so small.

Settings>General>Usage>Battery Usage is pretty much useless it would not give any information until I had a full charge, so did that.

I am at 100% and it tells me that there is 6 minutes of usage (me looking at the screen like now) and 29 minutes of standby as it has been on since the last charge.

In the last 7 days it says 51% of the battery went to Home and Lock Screen.

Battery App and Settings took 21 %

Phone was low signal and needed 9 %

Maps was low signal and needed 8 %

Clock, Messages and Contacts were about 2% each.

Battery Doctor says the same future stand by prediction of 23 hours ...

WHAT IS NEW .. that I noticed is that Stock Market is always ON .. and I get constant updates of date for the US Stock Market.

Just pull the screen down ... and there it is ... always in constant use.

I SO WANT that to be voluntary.

I got the lowest data plan from Verizon as I do not do downloads from iTunes iPhone store .. nor the App iPhone store ... waste of time and there is nothing I want there by way of the iPhone.

If I can not get it over the iMac iTunes store by way of my hard drive and the internet I do not want it.

Verizon always gives me a warning about day 25 of my month that 75% of the data has been sent and I am at risk of MORE COSTS on the billing.

I always wondered what I was downloading data on .. as I NEVER DOWNLOAD data.

The answer .. is Stock Market quotes .. and of course the Push notifications.

Unlimited Talk and Unlimited Messages .. so that do not count.

Also that is where my battery is going for some part of it .. is receiving Stock Market data and advertisments.

Still PODCAST .. is level 3 usage

iBOOKS .. is level 2 usage

MAIL is level 2 usage.

WiFi is level 1 usage.

PUSH is now down to level 1 usage .. used to be level 3 usage.

BLUETOOTH is still level 1 usage.

The BIG WORDS up there ... I have turned OFF .. and I NEVER USE.

I get no mail what so ever .. my ISP will not allow it.

I use no iBooks .. I use no Podcasts .. but the usage is huge.

Why this is so .. I dunno.

I am not a technical expert .. just reporting what the iPhone says to me over the apps that is saying it.

My battery life is so much worse with the new update ...

not as bad as others .. but worse then before.

I want to DELETE iBooks .. and Podcast and Mail .. and Video ... etc ... as I do not use them and I do not want them.

Apple says I MUST HAVE THEM ... why .. I do not have a clue.

If they could be deleted as all the other Apps are deleted .. then it would be so much easier to diagnose the battery drain problem in isolating what is going on I think. Failure to to have that ability seems odious, misplaced and clear example of poor judgment.
