iTunes Doesn't Recognize iPod (5th Gen Video 30Gig)

My iPod was working fine until I deleted songs that were all duplicated (using Anapod) and then discovered there weren't any songs left on my iPod.

I synced it back to iTunes and this messege popped out
"iTunes cannot read the contents of your iPod..etc etc" The gist of the message was that iTunes couldn't read my iPod and after I clicked the OK tab, the page sort of freezes and I can't click restore, so, its not possible for me to restore my iPod!

I've tried everything! Re-installing iTunes; disconnecting USB ports; resetting iPod nothing works.

AND

I have 15 video podcasts. in the Settings area, it says i have 15 but when I go to the menu section in the podcasts, i have 30! all duplicated!

so..

1. how do I restore my iPod
2. how do i get rid of the duplicates?

It seems that it's the new version of iTunes (7.2) that is the problem. My iPod has been working fine for over a year, and ever since this latest iTunes update, I have had a terrible time getting my iPod to show up both in iTunes and on the desktop, and when I can get it to show up and sync, I get a message saying that 93 songs weren't copied because they cannot be played on this iPod, even though they played fine on the iPod before I upgraded iTunes. Hopefully somebody at Apple is working on a update to fix this problem with iTunes 7.2.

Just wanted to let everyone know, I was having the same problem and I followed the suggestion of adrian.d and changed the letter of the drive assigned to my I-Pod and it immediately fixed the problem.

Thanks adrian.d Wish I would have read this before spending an entire weekend and two hours on the phone with apple support.

I'm having the exact same problem! My computer sees the iPod as an iPod, but iTunes just stopped! Info that might help: I dropped it once, but it was in a cushioned case, and didn't fall more than a foot and a half. No evident damage. Also, just before iTunes stopped reading it, I tried syncing it, and it said that the disc could not be read or written to. Any suggestions? Please help, I'm having a bit of a personal crisis here!

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

All. If your iPod is not recognised by the OS or by iTunes try this:

Disconnect your iPod.
Make sure the 'hold' switch is not on.
Press and hold the 'menu' and 'select' (circle) buttons simultaneously.
Keep holding them both down for at least five seconds.
Your iPod will display the apple logo and will be properly reset.

Plug it back in again and see what happens.
