iPhone music app freezing, throwing me out, misbehaving

This is on an iPhone 6 with the latest iOS 8.4.1 as of today, running the music app with an account for the family. As I'm browsing and listening to music, the app threw me out after an hour or so complaining about an authentication failure, unable to log me in. Quitting and restarting the app didn't work. Getting to the iTunes and app store section was impossible as the settings app would freeze when I pressed this menu item. Rebooting the phone got it working.

I am seeing the app misbehaving at irregular intervals, with the screen just going blank with no music list or albums, but it doesn't stop playing what's already on.

At other times, selecting a song doesn't play it. The app appears to "think" about it for a while and simply gives up. Retrying 4-5 times gets it playing.

There's really no problem with my WiFi or net connection and I'm on a 200Mbps fibre line here. Just to test, spotify worked just fine with no glitches.

Are there any tips & tricks you have used to resolve these problems?

The recent update that was supposed to fix the initial problems with Apple Music (I wasn't having any problems) has actually CREATED problems for me. The app continuously freezes, I can't access the Music menu in Settings to turn Apple Music off altogether. I've also noticed that my battery drain is worse too!! ***. I read today that it seems people are dropping AM at a high rate. No wonder. Me too I'm afraid.

I have the same problem with my 6 Plus (64gb). I don't have to reboot my phone, turning it off and on again works, but after some hours, the same happens again. As you have described, Apple music doesn't stream (play doesn't work), iTunes and App Store don't download content, settings get stuck at itunes and app store/music menus, sometimes safari doesn't refresh high-density pages... Moreover, seems like any apple ID-related apps which need content to be downloaded get stuck too. Examples: Apple Store app, iBooks, Podcasts, Game Centre, iTunes U...

It's quite awful. Besides, I've restored my phone (as new instead of using a backup) twice, once directly from settings, an after from iTunes... Doesn't work. After some hours the this bug happens again. I've just tried to turn Apple Music off and on again, for now works fine, let's see if it keeps going... Anyway, I agree on what someone above said: seems like a problem with Apple ID detection for certain parts of the system. Even though it has an easy solution, it's a big deal which is not supposed to be on a final version... Seems more like a beta one. Hope Apple team work that out soon. Ending words: it seems like an iphone 6/6+ thing...

Same issues here. Backed up, restored and it worked for awhile then stopped. iPhone 5s with 8.4.1. Signed up for Apple music trial right when it launched and things worked fine for me. Latest update or weirdness on Apple backend seems to make it appear like my phone becomes unauthorized for the service.

Restarting phone seems to clear the problem but after 40 minutes or so, streaming stops and there is a screen asking be to join Apple Music. Very frustrating.

My Apple Music has stopped freezing up, the For You, New and Radio functions are working - for now. However, when I try to enable the iCloud library, I am still getting the "iCloud library cannot be enabled at this time" error message. I think I have flipped that switch a hundred times. This all started when I signed out of and back into Apple Music. Because it was continually freezing up. I am thinking I may have to do a restore, or wait for iOS 9. Will see what the genius bar has to say.

Same issue on my iPhone 6 since I've upgraded to 8.4.1. Titles don't play even though it looks as they would, re-registration invitation even though I'm registered, settings app freezes when I try to access Music tab ... 😠

I'm wondering how long it'll take till Apple drives me to Android ... oops, did I really say that ...? 😊

I recently created a similar thread in the iPhone section of the community. It's not just the Music app guys. Email, Safari, iTunes and even 3rd party apps start freezing/misbehaving. The diagnostic data section is filled with logs starting with "stacks+(app that freezes)". Restoring, erasing the phone and even setting everything up from scratch still produces the same issues. If you don't restart your phone on a 30 minute basis, the freezes/crashes start getting worse. I don't know how this update even got through to release this early as it practically breaks using the phone. There should have been an "emergency " update to 8.4.2 days ago.

Well, after 48 hours it seems that the restore did not resolve all of the issues. It's working better than it was previously, but I'm still seeing freezes in the settings screen and my music mostly refuses to download from iCloud to my device so that I can listen to it offline. My advice is to sit tight until an update is (hopefully) posted to fix these issues.

SO just thought I should share my experience, had enough with AppleCare over the phone. Went to store and the genius was bemused and puzzled, he tried everything bless him but couldn't stop it. Then he offered a replacement and I was ecstatic until I realised it was running iOS 8.3 and he made me update to iOS 8.4.1 damnit! But I suppose the consolation is I got a new phone to replace an already 2 week old one. He said I need to go back to apple care on phone 😟 I have had this escalated to engineers too Hopefully we get an update before engineering provide an update!!!

thanks

maybe not the same problem but my 'Music' app on my iPhone 5 would stall/freeze when opened (wanted to play my songs).

I noticed the little circle on the top banner was spinning, which usually means the phone is trying to connect to something.

Went to 'Settings' , then 'iTunes & App Store' then turned on 'Use Cellular Data'

fixed my problem. I guess the 'Music' app tries to connect to your iCloud or something which requires internet. I didn't have a wifi connection at that moment.

Kinda ***** if you must be connected to the internet if you just want to listen to your own songs stored on your phone.

I'd be curious to see how many of us with this problem have "Find My iPhone" turned on.

While beginning the process to perform a recovery of my iPhone6 it requires you to disable "Find My iPhone" which if you are here as you know requires you you to reboot your phone just to get there.

After I disabled "Find My iPhone" and then re-enabled it the symptoms are gone.
