iPhone music app freezing, throwing me out, misbehaving

This is on an iPhone 6 with the latest iOS 8.4.1 as of today, running the music app with an account for the family. As I'm browsing and listening to music, the app threw me out after an hour or so complaining about an authentication failure, unable to log me in. Quitting and restarting the app didn't work. Getting to the iTunes and app store section was impossible as the settings app would freeze when I pressed this menu item. Rebooting the phone got it working.

I am seeing the app misbehaving at irregular intervals, with the screen just going blank with no music list or albums, but it doesn't stop playing what's already on.

At other times, selecting a song doesn't play it. The app appears to "think" about it for a while and simply gives up. Retrying 4-5 times gets it playing.

There's really no problem with my WiFi or net connection and I'm on a 200Mbps fibre line here. Just to test, spotify worked just fine with no glitches.

Are there any tips & tricks you have used to resolve these problems?

The recent update that was supposed to fix the initial problems with Apple Music (I wasn't having any problems) has actually CREATED problems for me. The app continuously freezes, I can't access the Music menu in Settings to turn Apple Music off altogether. I've also noticed that my battery drain is worse too!! ***. I read today that it seems people are dropping AM at a high rate. No wonder. Me too I'm afraid.

It looks like Apple may have resolved the issue for some or at least for me. Apart from a full backup, erase and restore via iTunes which didn't help, my Apple Music and App Store have suddenly behaved normally again for the last 18 hours. It looks like the problem described here and experienced by me is gone. Hopefully you guys will see the fix soon as this is a back end issue and nothing to do with your iPhone settings.

Same happening here on my end. Sometimes the service will start misbehaving and it won't play any songs (it gets stucked at 0:00 and sometimes it does not even play my own songs stored in the iPhone), the Radio tab won't load, the app crashes, it starts asking me to subscribe again... Lots of different issues happening since last week (this also happened to me the second week after Apple Music's launch, but then it seemed to work fine for a few weeks and now the same is happening again...). The only way to fix this is to reboot BOTH my current iPhone (6S+) and my old iPhone that I use just to play music (5) (all my active iOS devices) to make it work just for a few songs. Then, the issues start appearing again. This does not happen on iTunes for Mac.

Interesting, I hope so. Actually my iPad seems to be working fine again, I haven't had to restart it. My iPhone was still having issues so I've restarted it with a hard reset so let's see if it behaves itself this time, fingers crossed! 😀

Update : OK, no luck for me. 15 mins after restart, all iPhone problems have returned 😢

Same problem as well! 8.4 version was working smoothly right from the start and now all is messed up, basically disabling Apple Music on my mobile devices. In addition Apple just closed the option to downgrade back to 8.4 which makes things even more frustrating as there is literally no option left to fix the problem, except waiting... most likely until the iOS9 release... and who knows what kind of problems will come along with that.

Just wanted to update, this has got  support scratching there heads!

im awaiting an engineer response, I'll report back. Am getting a call at 4pm uk time today.

I Have a friend iphone 6 on ios 8.4! I am so jealous he has no issues.

Apple let should make it possible to downgrade iOS at applecare discretion if they see it would be helpful. Please pop that in a feedback request to .

Cheers

p.s. If there are any other threads to do with this issue could you link them into your reply as the  technician I'm speaking too. Has agreed to monitor these so he can get as much further info together/gathered.

I'm not sure I've been lucky for the past 1 or 2 days but my iPhone hasn't had the issue anymore. I also tent to agree on what someone above said: it's a back end issue. Doesn't seem like a software one, apple might be fixing it invisibly and gradually. No software update would be needed in this context. Anyway, I haven't had the problem during the last 2 days approximately... Hope they are doing something and it's not just luck.

I agree with not forming a new thread as all the issues seem related.

Yes, the email link issue has disappeared since my "fix."

Quick question: when you signed-out of iTunes, did you also sign-out of iCloud?

Again, I apologise if it's been tried and I'm the guy who comes in and asks if you "turned it off and on again?" On the other hand, at least I'm not the guy suggesting a complete restore.

A.

After a very long call with a Senior iOS advisor at Apple I think we've found the the solution to a lot of Apple Music issues.

This worked for me, hopefully it will for you as well -

Close Music

Then

Settings - iTunes & App Store and logout of your Apple ID.

Then

Settings - General - Usage - Manage Storage - and remove any Music.

Then

Restart iPhone

Double check that you don't have any playlists, downloaded music on your iPhone. If you do, then restart again.

Now -

Sign back into iTunes & App Store,

Then

Apple Music and tune on iCloud Music Library

Then

Open Music, and wait for your music and playlists to sync.
