iPhone music app freezing, throwing me out, misbehaving

This is on an iPhone 6 with the latest iOS 8.4.1 as of today, running the music app with an account for the family. As I'm browsing and listening to music, the app threw me out after an hour or so complaining about an authentication failure, unable to log me in. Quitting and restarting the app didn't work. Getting to the iTunes and app store section was impossible as the settings app would freeze when I pressed this menu item. Rebooting the phone got it working.

I am seeing the app misbehaving at irregular intervals, with the screen just going blank with no music list or albums, but it doesn't stop playing what's already on.

At other times, selecting a song doesn't play it. The app appears to "think" about it for a while and simply gives up. Retrying 4-5 times gets it playing.

There's really no problem with my WiFi or net connection and I'm on a 200Mbps fibre line here. Just to test, spotify worked just fine with no glitches.

Are there any tips & tricks you have used to resolve these problems?

I have similar problems on my iPad air 2 .. it´s a 4g capable 128gb unit, and after 5 or so songs relayed via airplay the app stops responding. It hoggs resources like mad, notes app is lagging for example when this happens.

Takes up to 1 minute to recover from this, only sollution so far has been to reboot the ipad to be able to play another 5 or so songs.. Doubletapping home and ending the app does not fix it.

Also if I try to access music tab under settings, after freeze - and before reboot, the same thing happens. Settings app freezes, and music tab is unaccessible.

Streaming via Wi-Fi, or offline songs.. doesn´t matter.

Holy crap this last update has made a mess of this app.

THIS IS A RED FLAG BUG.... Should have been a showstopper in beta already 😟 😟 😟

After a very long call with a Senior iOS advisor at Apple I think we've found the the solution to a lot of Apple Music issues.

This worked for me, hopefully it will for you as well -

Close Music

Then

Settings - iTunes & App Store and logout of your Apple ID.

Then

Settings - General - Usage - Manage Storage - and remove any Music.

Then

Restart iPhone

Double check that you don't have any playlists, downloaded music on your iPhone. If you do, then restart again.

Now -

Sign back into iTunes & App Store,

Then

Apple Music and tune on iCloud Music Library

Then

Open Music, and wait for your music and playlists to sync.

I've stated this on another post as well, I'm experiencing the same issue! Apple Music stops working after a while, when I tap the "Radio" section it gets stuck loading. When I go into the Settings app and select "Music" the Settings app freezes. This is honestly embarrassing for a company like Apple that claims to make the end user experience the best. Such a shame!

I didn't experience any of these issues prior to the iOS 8.4.1 update and this issue prevails on my iPhone 6 and my iPad mini. My MacBook Air does not seem to be affected. RESTARTING the device does not seem to be a solution as the issue reoccurs shortly after doing so.

That's good news for Apple Music issues, but many people (including me) have a whole host of other issues as well. Issues with the Appstore/Podcast app, various settings pages locking etc. Earlier I tried the log out of all devices fix (but I didn't remove local music). After a restart, things were ok for a little while, but as with all previous attempts, not long after, all the problems came back again.

RESTARTING (after logging out of iTunes & App Store and deleting all music & playlists) the device does not seem to be a solution as the issue reoccurs shortly after doing so.

I even took the liberty of ERASING my entire device and reinstating my iPad as a new one (something no one should have to do). The issue still persists even after going that extra length. This is UTTERLY RIDICULOUS, it's very regrettable that this is coming from Apple. If there isn't going to be a solution for this so, I'm going to have to go back to Spotify.

Reporting back that since my fix yesterday my iPhone 5s is still performing great. Went to bed last night with the battery at 98%. WiFi and Bluetooth were both turned on and the phone was at 96% when I got up. For those who are still having trouble, do you have a large music library with both iCloud music turned on and a subscription to Apple Music? I was able to determine that there was a conflict between iCloud music and Apple Music. This was causing the processor to peg on the device and just as when that happens on your computer, with a processor running at 100%, LOTS of other things won't function (opening web pages, opening other apps, etc.).

Now that I'm manually syncing my music rather than through iCloud, no more problems. I have reenabled and can use Apple Music. I'm going to wait to try iCloud music until I see an update come out for either iOS or those apps just to be safe. By the way, I have a Macbook Pro, an iPad and an old iPhone 3s all tied to this account. I did not log out or reset any of those devices in the process, although it's possible that approach (documented above) could get you to the same resolution. Since that approach doesn't require all of the restores, I would try that first. However, if that doesn't work for you, you may want to follow the steps that I did to get your phone functional again.

Things are working well for my iPad. So, the "fix" worked for me.

My gal's iPhone is also working well with one exception: she seems to have the battery drain issue. I don't know if the battery drain and what is discussed here are related. For now, I am thinking -- and hoping -- that her issue is being caused by having to re-download all her music and album art, thus causing her phone's battery to go into a tailspin. Or perhaps with resetting the network and then doing the on-off-fix, we forgot to flick a setting and so something is now doing something.

(Sidenote: That's one thing we noticed whilst we were tussling with this issue: just how convoluted and misplaced many of the setting are. For example, when turning-on the iTunes ID again, why does one have to specify that they want their playlists shown. Of course we do! And why is it in a somewhat weird spot and marked with such awkward terminology? Maybe it's me. The fact, though, that my gal does the "fix" and then the next day is asking me, "Where did all my playlists go?" and then we have to find them... It's just not the Apple I knew. Rant/complaint over.)

So, long story short, all's well with me.

How about you?

A.

Glad its working for you.

I am still at the beginning again, So weird that some people are now reporting the issue is resolved but many others still facing the issue.

 took some crash logs etc. from me yesterday that were requested by engineers.

Surely  have a copy of IOS 8.4 somewhere, why don't they push that out again, as a short term fix. Losing faith in the software engineers at .

If i wanted to face issues as monumental as this, id sign up for the IOS 9 beta programme! But I'm not that stupid, frankly.

Thanks
