iTunes 12.3 installation error on Windows 10

I've followed the threads but still can't get new iTunes installed. Always get the message old version cannot be uninstalled. Now have no iTunes.

See my post on at the bottom of the first page of this thread. Repairing Apple Software Update before trying to uninstall/upgrade sometimes helps with this error.

Your ITunes Is in the down load files on your PC. Down load the older copy and then update to newer copy(ITunes 12.3)

Not for me. looked in downloads and found older version of iTunes and attempted to reload this, but told me a newer version was installed!! Searched fles and can't find it. Tried again new version and it says can't remove to an old version. Went to Control panel and to repair/change/uninstal programs and thee is an iTunes sitting there but when try to uninstal message is can't find it.

Thanks!! Worked fine for me. And indeed the apple softwareupdater.msi keeps giving errors. Tried to find something with Orca (https://msdn.microsoft.com/nl-nl/library/aa370557(v=vs.85).aspx) but couldn't find anything. Perhaps someone else??

Nothing I could do to shift old version of iTunes. So, (madly) I reset my PC. All's well, but sledge hammer, etc ....I've checked and there is no morsel of iTunes or anything to do with Apple on PC. Downloaded new iTunes and received a Windows error 2 message. O hum! Works great on laptop.

Any suggestions apart from just using laptop?

Try the method in Install missing components. What component fails to install, and what error message does it give? See this post for steps to produce detailed logs of the installation which may reveal why iTunes won't install. Look for words like failed or error.

I repaired ASU, Apple 64-bit application, and itunes in Control Panel>Uninstall Program. This forced iTunes to find the needed files and now it is working fine.

I was having the same problem, and when I tried to repair ASU Win10 informed me that it was impossible because a 'file already exists with that name'. Checked the Program Files (x86) folder and sure enough, a 0kb file (not folder) called Apple Software Update is sitting there. Cut and pasted it to my desktop (just in case), and ran the repair. Worked perfectly. iTunes 12.3 now installing with no errors.

Thank the Computer Gods for the User forums here. Apple couldn't troubleshoot their way out of a wet paper bag even if they had a map! It's absolutely appalling that they expect us to do their work for them.

another thread about uninstalling and re installing iTunes.i couldn't even

uninstall iTunes no matter what i tried until reading this solution.

Here's what you have to do.Run the program Iobit 5.It's a free

program but very powerful.It will delete everything pertaining to Apple.

Just keep following the commands and check with your programs to make sure you get them all.

I also uninstalled QuickTime so I had nothing pertaining to Apple in my programs.I created a system restore

which they advised.Once everything was removed I rebooted my computer.I then ran an installation

of I Tunes 12.3.The new installation worked perfectly and all my music was retained.Hope this was helpful

Just be patient when doing this and I'm sure it'll work.

Sadly there seems to be no magic bullet that is always guaranteed to fix installation issues for everyone, but I'm glad to hear you found a solution. 🙂

Thanks! This worked for me! Although I couldn't find the itunes6464 file, I just deleted all the entries in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\ folders that were connected to apple (so Apple Software Updater etc.). After running the installation again, it worked! Thanks!
