iOS 9 podcast app video in fullscreen

Before the update of the iPad to iOS9, it was possible to enjoy video podcasts full screen.

Now after the update, videos are played only in a small area of the screen.

Besides there are big bright white areas with controls and title.

Any one an idea how to switch to full screen?

iPad 2, iOS 9

iit's completely astounding if they actually intended this on purpose. I did what all the apple fans told me to do, aka send them a note, but no response from Apple. So that's not very nice

By "send them a note", do you mean you used the feedback page? The page with the disclaimer that says they read all the submissions but are unable to reply to them?

"Use the form below to send us your comments. We read all feedback carefully, but please note that we cannot respond to the comments you submit."

I didn't say I hadn't read their rules, nor did I say I didn't understand their rules. I did however say that by not responding it isn't very nice. Did you have a problem understanding that? I thought it was relatively simple. I'll try and make it more clear for you on the future.

No, I understood that Apple did exactly what they told you they would do and yet, you, for no discernible reason, seemed to expect something different. Pointing out the reality of what happened seemed only fair. I was only correcting a misleading inference.

I really don't understand how such a big bug can pass the beta testing. It is so annoying that I stopped watching podcasts on my iPad. At first I thought it was an error during the upgrade, so I tried to set the iPad back to factory settings as a new iPad. This didn't solve the problem. Then I restored the backup. Still without any change.

Several hours later I realized it was an ios9 bug. Now it is running ios9.1. Still no full screen wideo playback.

I was thinking of an upgrade to the iPad Pro, but I will not even think of that until this big problem is solved.

Well here we are, iOS 9.2, 8 sections deep, and STILL no full screen video podcast playback option. Looks like it's intentional on Apple's part. I've posted feedback with every version, that seems to not help. Apple used to be the gold standard when it came to U.I. design, not any more. If they think wasting screen space by making the video tiny and having super bright white bars top and bottom around video is acceptable then Apple is loosing its way. I vote Apple's Podcast app for worst U.I. 2015. I also recommend the person responsible for the terrible U.I. to not be allowed to touch any other app interfaces.

Sad, in the past it seemed Apple did listen, not any more.

what's worse is when posts get deleted which are trying to direct people in a direction which may help them find concrete answers to this bug/omission/change in direction. Since Apple isn't talking, it's hard to know which is correct, i.e., did Apple intend for this? At least some other industry pros may be able to tell us if Apple can't. Twit & iMore would be good places to start..,

My suggestion is to write the producers of video podcasts you enjoy and see if they realize their audience is having a lousy time trying to watch their hard work because of this change

jjust read a little over at iMore.com forums - do some searches under "podcast full screen", and a bunch of entries appear. Rene Ritchie seems to think it's a bug as opposed to a design change, but is opinion was over two months ago. If the full-screen fail is indeed a bug, how long should we expect to wait for Apple to debug the their podcast app?

This is the most ludicrous thing I've seen in a long while in the realm of software. This is so absurd it actually made me laugh out loud. Look at it on iPad Pro, and you will laugh, too (or weep). I expect Apple software to be atrocious and feature-depleted, because that's par for the course for Apple software, but this is a new record low even for them. The only solution appears to be to ditch the Podcasts app for good, as it appears obvious Apple do not care about fixing this crucial broken feature, with it being broken for half a year now or so. My replacement candidates include Downcast, Pocket Casts and Overcast.

The Podcasts app is not the only thing apparently broken by the iOS 9 upgrade. On four of my iOS devices since the upgrade, mail gets intermittently stuck in the Outbox when sharing via email from a different app. Naturally, Apple won't let us specify a different email app as the default email app for iOS, but forces the extremely feature-depleted and buggy Mail app down our throats. Also, the now useless Podcasts app cannot even be deleted from our iOS devices. Par for the course...
