Ios 9 cant enable mobile data for application(s)?

I was traveling while upgrading my device, and most seem to work as expected so far.

Since I'm careful with roaming charges, I disabled most of the apps from the mobile data setting page before I left, so I could read mail abroad without using alot of data in the background.

After upgrading to IOS 9, I can't seem to enable mobile data for any new apps.

The ones that were already enabled, is fine.. they can be disabled and then enabled again, but for example spotify refuses to use mobile data after the update,

I've restarted, soft reset, and every time the mobile data checkbutton is back to off if I go out of settings and in again (and it doesn't work).

Anyone else have this problem?

I'm having exactly the same issue. Any apps that were switched off for mobile data use before the IOS 9 update will not now switch back on. I've reset network settings to no avail. Deleting the apps and reinstalling them doesn't seem to work either. I thought about using one of my recent backups to iCloud but oddly since the IOS update I no longer have any phone backups despite me previously backing up pretty regularly!

same issue after ios9 update on iphone6. i had few apps switched off for cell data and now it's locked in that position permanantly. i deleted/re-downloaded the app but didn't solve the problem. also tried 'reset network settings' and 'reset all settings' but didn't work. there seems to be major issue every time i update to newer ios, and i have to spend many hours trying to restore my devices to where it was...or my ipad2 never recovered. i'm switching back to android when my contract is up.

Reply to: " I was stuck with the same issue in a critical situation where I need to use an app but was unable to turn on cellular data to that app. But I fixed it by erasing my iPhone and restoring the backup...(using) the file I backed up before updating to iOS 9 from 8.4" -

Really great advice for those who have backups dating prior to iOS 9.

Apple didn't allow me to backup my iPhone and iPad, on 8.4., because I didn't have enough storage in iCloud. I would have had to pay Apple $4.99 per month, which seemed like a silly added monthly expense, for iCloud storage to include the 50 gb's worth of data on my iPad. Who knew something like this would happen, and that we would all need backups to protect our devices from Apple updates? My iPad never leaves home, and has a protective cover - I wasn't worried about its contents being lost. NOW I've bought a higher storage plan, and it also costs less than before, but Backup is broken in iOS 9, so the bigger storage plan is not only too late but useless.

In hindsight, their wanting me to pay $4.99 per month (the price then) just to backup my two devices seems like extortion, if the importance of that backup was to guarantee protection from their own updates.

Reading about people who in emergency situations can't turn on cab summoning apps because the cab app's toggle is stuck in the "off" position - wow. Bad news. So sorry!

Every developer known to man, that's why they all recommend you take backups. You should always have a semi current backup in case something happens, that is just best practice for everyone living in the digital age. If you have a computer you can back up your iPhone/iPad whatever for free, unlimited! What a concept! 😉

Idid take a backup of all my contacts and photos in my gmail and PC. so no prob in that. Messages will go away but thats the price of updating an ****** ioS update.

Yep, same here. I deactivated mobile data for most of my apps since I was abroad, updated to iOS 9 there, and now I can't switch it back on. Very frustrating, my expensive 4G bundle is useless until this solved. Please Apple, fix this soon. Oh, and Apple, to which address can I send my bill of my 4G bundle that I'm not able to use at the moment??
