Iphone 6 gray bar blocking text box after ios 9 update??

tried opening and closing photo but that didn't work

Then double clicked on the on button at bottom of iphone6+ and shutdown all open windows

That worked

Don't know which window was causing this and don't care

Apple should fix this

I stumbled onto the method of flicking away all the apps in standby, and the text bar cleared up.

I do not think this is a solution, however.

Note: Even though apps in standby(?) are not supposed to have significant impact on the phone operation,

my experience is otherwise.... since iOS 8

This seems, alas, a problem yet to have been addressed by the company.

What seems to work for me is to clear my open apps by double clicking on the start button and swiping the open app upward til you see the app screen and then I can go back into the text app and the grey box of doom(gbod) is gone. It's a little extra work but beating the GBOD is worth it.

Make sure to turn off raise to listen in Messages. I noticed when I moved the phone in an upright position while on texting, it came back. With Raise to Listen off, it did not. Frankly I'm surprised they have not fixed this with 9.0.1.

The "permanent" key is to turn off "raise to listen." The problem for many is that if you don't use iMessage you won't see the option to turn off "raise to listen" in Settings->Messages. If you don't use iMessage then you'll need to turn iMessage on in order to reveal the "raise to listen" (and other) settings. After turning on iMessage, turn off "raise to listen", then turn off iMessage again if you like. No more grey box. Hoorah!

^^ this is the only way it fixed for me, besides starting a new message in the message app then pick there name from contacts and it brings u to the conversation u had. but no text bubble.

Is this only a problem texting ANDROID phones?

Is there a permanent fix for this yet? The toggling on and off of the Show Subject Field is good as a temporary fix. We are now on 9.0.2 and the issue is still out there. Will resetting the phone work? I am new with iPhone (switched from android) and am unsure how to do a reset.

The turn off audio when raise to listen was the only permanent fix. I tried all of the other fixes but they were temporary at best. Your suggestion has been working for the past week.

Hi, I've tried a lot of thinks sugested on this pages but the total annoing grey box keeps coming back on my iphone 4S?!!

It's completely a mystery for me how this can happen on released software- so silly ..

THIS ISSUE IS NOT SOLVED YET APPLE!!

I have an iPhone 4s, and am running 9.0.2 & have tried every "trick" listed. Most of them work for a time or two and then the gray box comes back. I have now gone into Settings, Messages, and "Raise to Listen", and switched it off. THAT is currently working for me, and the gray box has been gone longer than it ever has before.

I tried turning off the camera in the background. This worked. Also, turning Subject field off and on worked as well, but I didn't want the subject field there, so I turned it off and I was still fine. Camera in background seems to have been the issue for some unknown reason.

I Have tried the ideas posted to get rid of this annoying bug. It has now come back yet again. Apple really meed to fix this permenantly, not leave its customers to poke around with the settings to try and get some temporary fix

. My iphone6 was expensive and I take great care of it, its a shame that Apple have messed it up.

What is interesting is I had a 4s, and had the problem. I sold that phone and got a 5s, figuring the issue would go away, but it didn't, it is on my newer phone too. On the iphone 6 go to settings, messages, then "show subject field". I turned this from on to off then back on again and the gray box disappeared.
