Iphone 6 gray bar blocking text box after ios 9 update??

I have experienced this strange thing as well, after upgrading my phone today. I followed your advice as I had so many apps open. After closing them the gray box went away. Hooray!

Here is works for me:

1) Double press the home button

2) swipe up the message app to stop it from running

3) press the home button to go back

4) Select the messenger app

that may work temporarily, the fix I posted is what stops it from happening to begin with. I do Tech Support for a cell phone company, we get alerts and what not from Apple regarding these issues and the fix or the ETA on patches to current issues. Some have been able to fix it with a simple reboot and it hasn't happened again, others have done that same thing, it fixes it but then it comes back. This issue was the only bug i had after my update and this fixed it for me. the steps I listed above

You have our sympathies, You're not alone this is quite annoying ,with no explanation about what that ******* Graybar is for to begin with ,but character count killed it for me ,I think that's where you want to look if not you have to wait for Apple to come out with some type of solution

tried opening and closing photo but that didn't work

Then double clicked on the on button at bottom of iphone6+ and shutdown all open windows

That worked

Don't know which window was causing this and don't care

Apple should fix this

I stumbled onto the method of flicking away all the apps in standby, and the text bar cleared up.

I do not think this is a solution, however.

Note: Even though apps in standby(?) are not supposed to have significant impact on the phone operation,

my experience is otherwise.... since iOS 8

This seems, alas, a problem yet to have been addressed by the company.

I'm bad enough when i can see what i'm texting never mind when i can't - that's predictive for you !

He says it's a simple fix and it is but it's certainly not intuitive

Also keeps coming back think apple needs to update and fix this issue .

What seems to work for me is to clear my open apps by double clicking on the start button and swiping the open app upward til you see the app screen and then I can go back into the text app and the grey box of doom(gbod) is gone. It's a little extra work but beating the GBOD is worth it.

Make sure to turn off raise to listen in Messages. I noticed when I moved the phone in an upright position while on texting, it came back. With Raise to Listen off, it did not. Frankly I'm surprised they have not fixed this with 9.0.1.

I have to shut off my iphone and turn it back on to get rid of it.
