Calendar and Contacts not syncing after iOS 9 upgrade

My iCloud and Exchange calendars and contacts stopped syncing after upgrading to iOS 9 on an iPhone 6. Mail is fine and iCloud notes are syncing correctly. It seems to be specifically calendar and contacts. I tried deleting the Exchange account and re-adding it with no luck. From desktop to web is working for both iCloud and Exchange, so definitely, the phone has the issues.

Anyone have a solve or things to check?

I called Apple, and in their infinite wisdom, they first said that it was not a known issue. Then when I pointed them to multiple threads on their forum, they claimed it to be a Google Apps issue. I got frustrated, and had some time to burn, so I reset my phone, and that appears to have worked.

WARNING THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE

To be clear . . .

  • I made sure that I had a backup of my phone
  • Went to General / Reset / Erase All Content and Settings.
  • Then I went through the set up process, and restored from my previous backup.
  • I selected a backup that was over a week old.

My problem went away . . .

Once my phone completed syncing, all my data was back too.

My exact symptoms were that my calendar would not sync. If I deleted my calendar, and added it again, all of my appointments would come, but any changes would not be reflected.

Hope this helps someone.

Wel, what does one have to lose?

That's upgrading that started it all, wasn't it?

Upgrading the Mac made me lose databases and stuff on the computer, and did not solve the calendar sync issue

9.0.2 did not solve the issue

I have tried a whole variety of manipulations and no Imac calendar change shows on the iPhone

And I use only mac material, no google app, no sync with email, no icloud, very frustrating

I wish a solution would come and I stop losing stuff ^-^

resetting to factory solves most problems, but if I restore from backup, I'll restore the problem. I guess I was hoping to avoid this. For now, I guess "9=0" for my VIP notifications. Makes Apple look pretty bad.

ANd: my issue is with VIP notifications. There's no badge on my home screen, but in the message center 'VIP' persistently shows 9 messages unread, No messages in that mailbox are unread or show a blue dot indicating that they've not been read. And 'Edit' doesn't work for that inbox. Since my VIP messages come from any email account, identifying the exact source is really hard. And none of my other mailboxes are manifesting this issue. So my guess is it may be a VIP-thing.

I don't have a Mac, and I haven't sync'ed my phone or iPad with anything but the cloud in months. Still on iOS 9.0.2, but will look for updates again. And again!

Thanks. One of the links led me to the fix of downloading google calendar app for my iphone. this fixed it immediately. I was skeptical that it would allow me to log in correctly but I put in my work credentials and then had to enter a 2nd time in the familiar company branded login screen. Now all good. Both events I create on my phone updates in a few seconds on my cpu and likewise the other way around.

I hope this fixes other folks as well.

We see this issue with CardDAV (Contacts) Account from our MacMini Server, not CalDAV (Calendar) Account. The issue is simple, there is no longer a refresh feature in IOS 9 Contacts (Calendar still has one). In IOS 8 when you went you were in Contact application, then clicked on Groups, when you pulled down there was a refresh swirl and all was good; however in IOS 9 pulling down does NOTHING!!!!. The only time IOS 9 seems to update shared CardDAV contacts is when you either a new one, or edit or delete an existing one. To test we have an iPhone still on IOS 8, one on IOS 9, two iPads on IOS 9, one iPad on IOS 8, and two Mac’s still running Yosemite. When a new contact is created on IOS 9 device and saved it’s seen only on two IOS 8 devices, and Mac’s, not on the two other IOS 9 devices. Now edit a contact on another IOS 9 device and save, again the contact updates on both IOS 8 devices and Mac’s, not on the other two IOS 9 devices; however that new contact added on the 1st IOS 9 device now is on this IOS 9 device that you did the edit on. Bottom line, Apple lost Contact refresh in IOS 9. I can’t believe that IOS 9.0.2 still doesn’t have this fixed.

This drove me around the f&%$ing bend. I'm using an iPhone 5s with 9.0.2.

My particular issue was that my google calendars would not show up on my iPhone calendar app (although they showed up just fine on the iPhone Google Calendar app).

What seems to have finally fixed it was logging out of iCloud on the iPhone (Settings > iCloud), as someone suggested here. I deleted my gmail account (Settings > Mail, contacts, calendars) and then added it back. At that point the google calendars showed up. When I logged back into iCloud, the google calendars did not go away, as I'd feared. That said, in the iCloud account, I turned Calendars off; not sure what would happen if I turned it on (I don't need to and don't intend to). I have Push turned on. Under the Gmail account it shows Fetch and then, when I click on that, Fetch is selected (not Manual).

To choose which google calendars (your own and ones that have been shared with you) are pushed to your device, you have to go here: https://www.google.com/calendar/syncselect

Mee too ..... I have the same problem with Contacts not syncing to iPhone (iPhone 4S with iOS 9.0.2). ..... When I change a contact in an iCloud web interface, then the change is not mirrored to an iPhone.

I am able to enforce only a one-shot synchronization via power down / up the iPhone or switch off / on the iCloud services. But subsequent contact changes are again not mirrored from iCloud web interface into an iPhone. It looks, that Contact applications does not even try to connect to a server (no jiggling wheel).

I do not use Google or Exchange Contacts. I use only iCloud Contacts.

Calendar seems to have the same problem, but I have tested only briefly.
