IOS 9 - how to get rid of or turn off Game Center

For those still suffering from Game Center pop ups even after signing out, try opening a game and closing out the Game Center screen three times in a row. This has worked for me the past two iOS versions.

same problem after upgrading to iOS 9… can't get rid of the Game Centre notifications… i HATE them!!!

i have already –
logged out of Game Centre
turned on Restrictions for Multiplayed Games & Adding Friends… (Apple's suggestion…)
turned off Notifications for Game Centre

if i wait for the 12 seconds it takes for the log in screen for Game Centre to come up at the start of Bejeweled to come up and then cancel it, then force close the app, then do it two more times, the fourth time i open Bejeweled, it doesn't ask me to log in, but then later the same day i would have to do it again… (this used to work on iOS 8 and was what Apple started to suggest to me when i rang them…)

I have exactly the same problem with Bejewelled since I upgraded to iOS 9 and it is really annoying. Why would any designer think it is a good idea to have this stupid, slow pop-up every time I start the game, especially when I have never used Game Centre? It's particularly great if you pause a timed game and restart it - the game starts with e.g. 25 seconds remaining and it continues to time out in the background whilst the Game Centre pop up slowly appears in the foreground and disables any activity. Great. I am going to stop playing Bejewelled.

I tried to leave feedback on Game Centre at the link you provide above, but Game Centre is not listed in the iOS or OS X apps lists (well I can't see it) so I don't know where to leave the feedback.

Any helpful suggestions appreciated ...

Well I tried opening and closing a game four times and cancelling game center when it popped up. That didn't work. I then went into the settings of the game and it had external links to the license and other stuff. I selected the End User License Agreement and it opened an external safari window with the info. When I selected the back to game on the safari window, the game center window popped up immediately so I cancelled it. I went back to the external link and back into the game, same thing game center window popped up I cancelled it again. The good thing was this was a lot faster than opening and closing the game. After cancelling game center four times in a row, it stopped coming up. I tried another game and it didn't come up in that either. I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't come back again. The game I used that had the external links in the settings was PVZ2. I'm wondering if it was a timing issue when opening and closing the game to cancel game center it took too long between cancels so it didn't cancel it permanantly. Using the external link cycled quickly between the cancelling and it stopped coming up.

on 9.0.1 go to your app, when game screen appears press cancel.

Then press the home button, select app and cancel again.

After three cancels the game screen no longer appears.

so it is the same as with ios8 and before but seems specific to this way of cancelling.

SSadly this does not work as the darned screen returns later.

They are becoming like their competitors

just go to Settings --> Notifications, go down to NOTIFICATION STYLE section, find Game Center and switch it off. That's all.

Bzzzzzzt...wrong answer. Disabling Game Center notifications does NOT prevent the Game Center pop-up login window from doing what it's currently doing, that is, popping up whenever you run a Game Center game, despite being logged out and Game Center being disabled in the game itself. The notifications you mention have nothing at all to do with this aspect of it. I've had those settings turned off for years now and the Game Center pop-up login window still hounds every day. Cancelling the pop-up 4-5 times gets rid of it for awhile (12-24 hours maybe), then it repeats the process, as I mentioned, seemingly every day.

This is something that started with the release of iOS 9 but still affects other iOS versions as well.

It's such a pity that we can't run Little Snitch on iOS. What's the betting that all of these little phone-home annoyances would be removed in a trice.

iOS9 is such a pointless update. One wonders what's involved with backing it out and upgrading to iOS8.

Don't help me mine won't open on app or in settings all due to the 9.0 and 9.0.1 updates no way of turning it off it don't even open

It is not a "wrong answer." I did it about one hour ago (it was my own idea) and the Game Centre in the Notification Centre was active. I turned it off and it hasn't opened up since then. I tried my games and it still hasn't opened.

Perhaps it works for some people but not everyone.
