IOS 9 - how to get rid of or turn off Game Center

I recently upgraded to IOS 9. Game Center has reactivated itself; issues pop-up messages and enables people to "challenge me". I do not want this - I find it annoying.

How do I disable Game Center, or at least turn it off?

iPhone 5, iOS 8.3, Also iPad

in ios 9 mine would stop bugging me after 3 cancels but with 9.0.1 it seems that you need to cancel more than 6 times in a row before you are granted access to your games. The sign in screen takes over 10 seconds to appear. There should be some way to opt out. In previous versions turning off game center notifications took care of it. But turning notifications on and off didnt help. What an annoyance!

I too suddenly got pop ups for Game Center every time I opened my card game.....maddening ....so maybe iOS9 turned it on ? I found two things....in Settings/Game Center I made sure I wasn't signed in ( never have been ) .....then back IN my card game APP I re checked the settings icon.....and found a new setting for Game Center turned ON....turned it off....and it's no longer popping up .....might have been activated because I lost all my old settings when my Podcast App crashed and I was advised to wipe my iOS9 5s iPhone twice ! It didn't fix the Podcast App....but it's taken me days to put everything back in order....ugh.

I have already signed out of Game Center, and the games I play have nothing available in either their settings or options that have anything to do with Game Center. The only way I have found to stop getting the annoying Game Center login screen from popping up is to put the iPad into airplane mode prior to opening the game. This turns off WiFi and Bluetooth (and cell service if you have it). Since Game Center has no way of talking to the Internet, it doesn't pop up the login screen. Not a perfect way of doing things, but a lot less annoying than having to tell the Game Center that you do not want to log in every time you start a game. You just have to remember to turn airplane mode off again when you really want to run a app that requires Internet access.

I found a similar resolution to ScottP1066, in that I turned off cellular data for the game I was being bothered by and that has stopped the game center login from coming back each time I open the game.

Not as drastic as having to go to airplane mode each time, seems to do the trick and gets rid of the stupid game center that I don't use.

[Edit] This did not work on my iPad, but did work on my iPhone (both running 9.01)[/edit]

Well I seem to have just gotten the game center welcome back/sign in nag screen to turn off, which had been coming up every single time I minimized or restarted a game even though I was not signed in to it, and had it disabled in notifications.

I triple checked that I was signed out of game center, and I was. I pressed the "forgot apple ID" found in "settings-> game center" twice. Maybe three times. I did it a lot.

I fired up Uprising and bam, no more game center welcome screens.
