IOS 9 - how to get rid of or turn off Game Center

I recently upgraded to IOS 9. Game Center has reactivated itself; issues pop-up messages and enables people to "challenge me". I do not want this - I find it annoying.

How do I disable Game Center, or at least turn it off?

iPhone 5, iOS 8.3, Also iPad

I've tried every option presented here and found that while some of them work temporarily, none of them is a permanent solution. Apple is spamming us with this nonsense and making some of the apps almost unusable in the process. While it may only be an annoyance, I do not see why Apple should be allowed to force a popup when we have purposely turned off notifications. I'm incensed by the way they re-set all of my options every time I upgrade ios versions. They seem to have forgotten the basic principal of good customer service.

I don't know for sure if my experience will be helpful.....but when my iOS9 update crashed my phone ( turned out to be just the podcast App ), the store insisted on a total to factory wipe after the first effort didn't work.....and my back-up wasn't there ( ??) ....so had to load everything from scratch....getting a newer version of my card game I've had for years. It was then that I also experienced the annoying pop up to sign into Game Center....something I've never done...or want. After closing a million times....then turning off all notifications....it still popped up EACH time I tried to play....I was about to delete the game when I tried one more thing....peeked in the Apps settings inside the App.....where I found a game center On-Off toggle ?! Switched it off and I haven't had any more trouble with Game Center.....worth a look.

IN case this does not work for you try the following

in settings go to general -> restrictions,

enable restrictions at the top (set code)

go to the bottom, disble multi-player / adding friends

this seemed to stop the popups... for me, for now.....

i then disabled restrictions again (removing the code) and am still clear of popups.

hope this helps someone :-)

Here is another thing to try. I did this yesterday, and today no more popups. I actually logged in to Game Center, with the intent of logging in, then logging out. But the login didn't seem to work correctly. It just looped back to the login window and showed that I wasn't logged in. Today I am not getting any popups. I am not sure how long it will last, though...

I also have this problem on my iPhone 5S since updating to 9.0.1. It's relentless and I keep cancelling over and over again on my Scrabble app. I disabled Game Center eons ago, I cleared out all the game apps associated in Game Center on my iPhone, iPad, and I never ever activated it on my Mac. Game Center notification is turned off and I still get it numerous times on my Scrabble App. I keep doing CANCEL, CANCEL, CANCEL, CANCEL, CANCEL etc. etc. It is so annoying and I can't take it anymore. I feel like whipping my phone across the room. Why can't we just delete the Game Center app permanently. It's the most useless app to me.

These things may have been suggested by others, but I thought a list might be nice. When iOS 9 installs it handily turns on options that you may have turned off. Fresh installs of apps may also turn on options you may not like.

• Sign out of Game Center in Settings.

• Go to individual apps under Settings and turn off cellular access for the apps. Don’t play with wifi on.

• Turn off notifications for Game Center.

• You can always take your device incommunicado by using Airplane Mode while you play. Pull up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center and click the airplane icon to turn off cell/wifi access to the iPhone or iPad. Just remember to go back to normal mode after you stop playing.

THis finally calmed down on my phone now i only get 3 requsts after every boot and then it stops. I thought maybe Apple did something on the server side. But then i went to play a game on my husbands ipad running ios 9 and it nags and naGs. I checked for a setting in the app, i turned game center notifications on turned off all the sub settings turned notifications off again and it still keeps nagging. This is very annoying and hard to explain when it goes away. A real bug for sure!

This is still working for me. No more popups.
