IOS 9 - how to get rid of or turn off Game Center

I recently upgraded to IOS 9. Game Center has reactivated itself; issues pop-up messages and enables people to "challenge me". I do not want this - I find it annoying.

How do I disable Game Center, or at least turn it off?

iPhone 5, iOS 8.3, Also iPad

I may have found a solution. I too began getting the Game Center screen each time I logged onto a few of my games since installing iOS9. Before this, all you had to do was sign out of the Game Center, but that's not the case any longer.

I went into General, and then into Restrictions. I enabled restrictions and then went to game center at the bottom of the page and turned off Multiplayer Games and Adding Friends. So far (fingers crossed) I have yet to see the Game Center screen pop up on my games. I hope it sticks! 🙂

When I went into General > Restrictions and turned off Multiplayer Games and Adding Friends, I couldn't access my Scrabble games. That game is played with random players. So that didn't work for me.

I do have Game Center disabled in all the appropriate places. If I do a reboot to test, the Game Center Log-in appears again and I have to cancel 3X or more. So that seems to be it. Rebooting causes the Game Center pop ups and the bug is still there with the recent iOS 9.01 upgrade.

That's odd, Crystalship. I have a few multi-player games and they don't seem to be affected. I pulled up my Scrabble and chose a new game with a random player player and it worked fine. 😕

AngusCS, I also 9.02 and keep cellular turned off for my games, and it works fine.

Obviously, though, it certainly is a problem that Apple needs to address.

My grandson is five and loves his IPad. But, with IOS 9 the Game Center pop ups became so irritating that I had to find a solution for him. I didn't want an OS to ruin his tech experience and in this case the design was. Don't struggle against Game Center, folks, you need a work around. Now we split our digital times between a Surface and an Asus Memo and a Nexus 7 - and maybe 20 percent on the good old IPad. In a previous life Grandpa sourced hardware for a picky organization and he knows how to keep the staff happy. Apple decided to move in a particular direction and so did we.

So far this method has worked:

in Settings find Game Centre>Log in as requested (sounds strange I realise)

In my situation I was asked to agree to Apple's T's & C's - and I was offered a Disagree Button - Disagree to the terms

on your next Game play, when the pop up happens, fill in your details; after a period of time I was returned to the fill in your details. My guess is, having declined the T's & C's Apple won't let me sign in. Cancel out of the Pop Up.

Close your game... Re-open the game and Pop-up's are gone

There is a lag in the game where I guess the game is doing a background check on my ID, but the pop-up does not load

Had a fright this morning, as GC said "Welcome Back Me", but think a default load as no Internet Connection. With internet Connection, still no pop-ups

I wonder, if filling in your normal Apple ID, but with a bad password, then keep pressing submit until your account locks has a similar effect?

Good Luck!

Great tip Allan, have filled in the feedback form a few times. I have also contacted their legal team, having Disagreed to Apples Terms and Conditions why does Apple deem it neccassary to check on a weekly basis.

Thus far, no-one from Apple has made contact, and we still continue to suffer with Apple's invasive App.

My fix continues to work on a weekly basis, but I have to suffer a badly written app to take 10 minutes to load, and a further 5 minutes to recognise my user details to then serve me the same T's & C's? (Fortunately the Disagree button still exists). Then to kill the pop-up wait another 5 minutes of Apple's spinning incompetence wheel to then remember I am non-compliant!

Boblarrance is correct... There is alternative Tech; today I cancelled my Apple Watch order and have pre-ordered Microsoft's Band 2.... I am also taking a close look at the Surface Pro 4... If the reviews stack up, then it will be considered in preference to Apple

Possibly Allan, Apple will start to listen then, as consumers vote with their feet...
