Contact name missing from text message since iOS 9 upgrade

Hi I fix mine when I delete the massages in massage app from that person which i dont see his name in notifications

I have reported this to Apple today via the bugreporter (twice, as it crashed...!) so we'll see if there's any response. The issue is infuriating. It's all very well having force touch and hand off etc. etc., but if the phone won't actually work as a phone... I've looked at all the forum threads and suggested fixes and can't find a solution. I think this is an iOS9 glitch and it needs to be sorted by Apple. It seems to be affecting a lot of people, so fingers crossed...

****, looks like I'm not the only one with this funky issue.

I found that when I changed my "Message History" in the "Message Settings" to "KEEP MESSAGES FOREVER", all my contacts came back...

Hope this works for all...

Go to Settings, then Phone. Scroll down to ‘Dial assist’ and slide the slider to ‘Off’

I can confirm that this is STILL NOT fixed on iOS 9.1. SORT IT OUT APPLE. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING.

What do you mean you deleted the thread? The text message?

when in messages, delete the message which will remove all of the history. I deleted my wife's message and then I got names on all text messages.

ON this same thread, I had the issue early, but erased the message and the names came back. Now I've lost contacts in my contact list, but when searched in the imessage app, they appear. I can only call the contact via the info button on the iMessage. Any Ideas? Thanks, Andrew

ios 9.1 hasn't resolved this issue. I have a 32gb 6 for the record.

I have raised it with Apple but no reply as yet. Very annoying! Don't expect such a significant error for Apple, never had this sort of problem with my old 4s on iOS 6!!

Mine has been resolved now thanks to jadetherotty's reply.

I Just deleted the conversation for the person it was doing it too and then when they sent me a text, it had their name back on it.

Thanks for letting me know that worked. The problem I have with this is that many of the contacts it happens for are people I have known for years, close friends and even my girlfriend. So I am loathe to delete all my conversations with them. I don't feel I should have to I guess!

I can confirm @jadetherotty's fix:

deleting the conversation with anyone who shows up as a number on the lock screen fixes the issue for new messages. I was hoping not to have to do this but after a few updates it would seem that it's not going to be fixed by apple so it doesn't look like we have a choice!

It does seem odd that it's not a wider issue despite many of my family and friends have it, I wonder if its to do with using gmail for contacts and not icloud or something?
