Sometimes there's no sound on notifications after iOS9 update

So I updated my iOS devices (iPhone 6Plus, iPad 4 and iPod Touch 5) with the new iOS 9 on 17th September and since then I have noticed a weird thing. For most of the apps such as whatsapp, viber, Facebook Messenger, Gmail and some games (for which I have set the notifications as active), there's no notification sound but still the notification comes up on the screen. This happens even with the native messaging app (whether I send a text or iMessage). When there's another notification from the same app, then notification plays the sound or at times the sound stutters for multiple notifications from same app (e.g.: whatsapp group texts).

So anyone else facing the same issues? Does anyone know a solution? I have tried restarting, restoring and updating my devices to iOS 9 again and the mute buttons on my iPhone and iPad weren't ON while facing the issues. The volume is at max level.

I guess its already time for Apple to release iOS 9.1 fixing the issues.

iOS devices that were updated:

iPhone 6Plus - 128GB

iPad 4 - 64GB

iPod Touch 5 - 16GB

I think there is work around for some of us but not a total fix. For me it's associated with my Apple Watch running os2. When I have my watched locked or off my iphone gets all its messages with sound. If the watch is locked I get all my messages.

Here is the forum topic:

Apple Watch Dictation not working in Messages after OS2 update

Apple still needs to fix this problem

Finally figured this out!!! Had similar problem with my husband's iPhone 6 when he upgraded to OS9. No alert were working - texts, email, etc. Would only vibrate. Tried re-booting, checking Do Not Disturb settings with no avail. We recently bought an new clock radio with Bluetooth capability and I could hear my husband talking on his phone through the radio. Went into Bluetooth settings, found the device and told it to Forget It. Problem solved and life it good again! :-)

You can report problems to apple at apple.com/feedback; by posting here you're just sharing your experience with other users who might have found a solution to your problem. This isn't a forum where you should expect a response from Apple representatives.

If you need to contact Apple Support, go to apple.com/support or make an appointment at a nearby Apple Store. If you have AppleCare, you'll probably have a great experience — I always have. And when I haven't had AppleCare, I've been surprised at the comparatively low cost of Apple's out-of-warranty repairs and replacements.

Calling these discussions "Apple Support Communities" might not be ideal; but it's not a place where Apple is likely to respond to your complaints, or even hear them.

I still think doing a 9.0.2 backup/reinstall/restore in iTunes did the trick for me. It's been about a week now, and the problem hasn't returned.

After you make your backup (and be sure to encrypt your backup, so it saves all your network passwords, etc.), just be sure you're clicking the "Restore iPhone…" link in the "iPhone [X]" section at the top of the window, not the "Restore Backup…" button in the "Backups" section. (At least, I think those are the labels to the best of my memory. Please correct me if I'm wrong — and I only know the Mac iTunes layout. Your Windows mileage may vary.) You'll get a clean 9.0.2 install with clean firmware, and then you'll have the option of restoring your backup. Even though it sounds scary and you think you might be wiping out all your settings, you'll get everything back when you restore. I've been much happier with my phone since then.
