Verification failed : There was an error connecting to apple id server
After updating to iOS9 I can not sign into iCloud and restore my backup. Now I do not have access to anything on my iPad air. Any way to fix this?

This what I did to get it working:
Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
Once it restarts, just re-input your wifi password. Go back into Settings and check ITunes & App Store, FaceTime, and iCloud to make sure that your Apple accounts are signed in.
Not sure what causes it but each time it does, I've reset the network settings and it resolves the issue.
My problem was my VPN. It was constantly trying to connect and interfering without even showing an error. Once I disabled the VPN (put it in manual mode instead of automatic, and then turned it off) everything worked fine.Hope this helps someone!
I Had same problem. Date & Time in settings "Set Automatically" had been turned off.
Same here
Hey i found out you need to check date and time settings if not current date wont work!
Mlake sure your cellular settings allow your clock to update if you are connected to wifi. All this time and that's what the problem was for me.
1settings
2general
3reset
4reset all settings
worked for me, i did have to re configure a couple things but at least i was fianlly able to log back in. had to call apple support help center to help me resolve issue.
Yes, I thought of this too, but to sign out of my Apple ID, I would have to input my password and that's were the problem is. It tells me that there was an error connecting to the Apple ID server.
That did not work for me. I even tried creating a new Apple ID.
You might want to start your own post since this one is from last year. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.
I think I may have found a fix - I have an iPod Touch so couldn't connect via 3G/4G cellular network. I got my iPhone and set up a hotspot and connected my iPod Touch to that. It seems to work and after it disabled the Find My iPhone on the iPod Touch, it then allowed me to sign out, and then sign back in. I had actually also changed my password on iCloud but I don't think this made a difference. Interestingly the clock on the iPod Touch up until I had connected to my iPhone was saying 01:00 and when I connected it via the personal hotspot, it updated to the correct time of day. I had just updated to IOS 9.3.4 but to be honest, I don't think I'd touched the iPod for several months. I had tried everything, soft reset, erasing all setttings (although couldn't do the full reset as it wanted me to enter icloud password and wouldn't accept it, even though I could login on icloud no problems). Hope this helps you - let me know if you want to know details of any of the steps!
Try to check if you are connected to your wifi or to your cellular data. I tried restoring mine and I had this error pop up constantly.... only to realize after 10 minutes that I was not connected to the internet.
I had the same issue while want to reset/errase the phone settings.
What I did was:
1. Reset network settings
2. Erase phone settings and data
That worked perfectly.
So assume Reset network settings would help you

I've already reset my network settings - after I exceeded my data plan using cellular. I've been having connectivity glitches off and on since my phone froze in July but especially now since the last IOS update. I don't want to keep having to reset my phone because I cannot connect to the apple ID server. I've turned my phone off and back on. I've disabled and then enabled my Messages. I've signed out and TRIED to sign back in to iTunes and App store but I still keep getting the message that "there was an error connecting to the Apple ID server." Now what?
I had the same problem.
I fixed it by turning off the VPN. There was a setting that automatically reconnected it called "VPN on demand".
Everything started to work normally and I could sign in again.
why its wrong? im very sure of my username and password ???????
