same here guys and I have a solution (maybe). perhaps I should explain how it seems to be resolved for me,. all the emails with this message were later downloaded to my laptop in full content.

As the iPad is an access point to my mail provider it has copies until it is downloaded to where I created my mail account (my laptop through outlook). it was frustrating at first but I still had the full email for my record. I have now discovered that when you reply directly from the ipad (without creating a new email), then the reply also going missing into iPad space and does not get sent to the laptop. I am sure that my provider will be able to retrieve the replied message for me but haven't got that far yet as it has just happened. so for me the lesson is, REPLY to emails by creating a NEW email from the ipad when it is lengthy and important. that way it will always stay in your sent box as it was the origin of email.

and I agree with Apple support, WWWoops I mean lack of knowledge, as every time I had an issue and went to them they wont admit they don't know but insist on wanting to go through your settings like your an idiot . What they are doing is hoping they find something by browsing. I have no problem with anyone in any field telling me they do not know. None of us can possibly have the answer to everything and support blogs like this have given more offerings of help than apple. Thanks to all the bloggers in the past that offered me some hint of explanation.

I'm still up and running. I made this change in my email settings. Its under properties and advance. Note the setting in the "delivery" section. So long as you never delete the email from the delete folder on your phone of computer the message stays and you don't get the "message has not been downloaded" message. Its a temporary fix...

If your email is something@verizon.com a copy is on their server. The problem is Verizon if like other POP accounts moves the emails from your inbox to the POP box. Something changed with Apples recent upgrade and does not allow an apple product from reading emails moved to a POP folder. Only way to see them on an Apple product now is by preventing the emails from being moved to a POP folder.

If you are downloading them to a laptop or a desk top its in that email program that you need to make the change. Somewhere on that email software there must be a link that says Accounts. Click on accounts and another page should come up that says Properties, Click on properties and go to advanced. Change the setting to what I have shown.

Downside it you will get the same emails on all of your devices regardless of whether you want that to happen.

You also need to go to the settings for the email account on your ipad and/or Iphone and scroll down to advanced. You will see "deleted messages" with the word "remove" below make sure you are set to "never". Further down on incoming settings you will see "delete from Server" make sure it is set to "never as well.

Other place you have to make changes to or make sure settings are right is by logging onto the Verizon server. probably uses Outlook. Once in click the wheel (the tools) and scroll down to Options. It should look like this:

Choose "connect devices and apps with POP. Next page should be set to this:

Note what is selected above.

So there are three places the settings have to be correctly set in.

Am responding to this as its closer to today's date, my iPad and iPhone has this problem since around sept 2015 and the update around then. But this problem has been happening for years, before 2011 according to search engines non this topic. ive tried every setting possible, all suggestions plus my own attempts - a couple dozen times. I have Verizon as my POP server - I called them, no help - say "contact Apple". My iPad is past Apples free support, there are no Apple responses to be found on this problem. I'm in the market now to buy a new laptop, am going to retire my iPad and never purchase another Apple - or Microsoft - product again. Apple has been so busy getting their new money-making products on the market in time for the holidays they don't give a rats behind that we're all living with the mess they created by putting out updates loaded with glitches with no return to previous software safeguard, and OBVIOUSLY no plans to give us an update to correct this! Are there no Apple techs willing to step outside their Apple roles to help us?

Thank you for this info, I'm trying it today, 11/23/15, is it still working for you? I use Windows Mail on my laptop, so I was able to acess properties and do this. Problem is, on iPad every time I go to settings the never delete and other options have changed back to what they were, I do click 'done' which seems to be the only 'save this setting' - why it keeps reverting back, yet one more Apple mystery. So far, for most bloggers nothing helped permanently, some did for a very short time, then the same message and deleted body of messages. So for now, would appreciate hearing if this is still working for you - and why oh why Apple doesn't care about repairing this, another mystery. The last update said it would fix this problem, it did not. Frustrating in many ways, esp for me - I have no need/interest in the updates that add iTunes and other things, seems Apple is spending too much tech time on fun stuff and totally ignoring email. Thanks again, fingers crossed the changes you suggested work for me.
