Memory leak on W7 x64 Post iOS9 upgrades iCloudServices.exe

Post upgrade of all my devices to iOS9 and upgrade of iTunes to v 12.3.044 I
am having repeated lockups and crashes of the iCloudServices.exe process. I get
low memory warning when the process approaches 1.6GB and then it just dies. I
can manually restart icloud app from the start menu and when I do so it runs
but resumes a slow climb back to 1.6gb and crashes again.

I have done a repair on the iCloud app and an uninstall / reinstall. Same
results

This iCloud app and process appear to be 32 bit v iTunes app is 64.

This behavior of the icloudservices.exe process began IMMEDIATELY after
upgrading to the iOS per comments above with no change to anything else on my
PC. My PC has 16gb ram so there is plenty available at all times.

I struggled through a similar issue with itunes app for more than 1 year ..
this was resolved via one of the iTunes updates during 2015 … here is thread documenting that history

small update .. i have again done an uninstall / reinstall and reboot .. but same results

the progression of the memory leak is very even .. 1.2GB per 24 hours .. i have captured this hourly and growth is constant even over night when PC is just sitting their dormant.

To forestall the low memory error i just end task and restart the icloud app. There seems to be no negative consequences other than the time to babysit this.

Hello, I just posted yesterday about the same issue here : Since iOS9 upgrade iCloud on Windows using huge amounts of RAM - memory leak

I've contacted Chat Support about the issue, shown them this thread and they've noticed me to submit a bug report to engineering on this URL : http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html

I submitted the issue explaining the problem and linking them this thread, so they'll see the issue isn't isolated. Now we can only hope they'll get on it and fix the memory leak.

Update .. same status .. I just manually end task when memory footprint >1.6 gb .. I have tracked this hourly for several cycles .. very steady growth 30k kb / hr ... at about 48 hour mark you hit 1.6 gb on the process

Workaround is open task manager; processes tab; right click on this icloudservices.exe and end task .. after 20 seconds to let windows sort things out just goto start; all programs; icloud and then just restart the app link icloud .. the icon will again appear in your lower right task .. and you now have yourself 2 days of life ..

if the process is not ended / restarted per above the process will crash and not clear what consequences for corruption etc

Repairing and or reinstalling the icloud app has done nothing to change the presentation of this problem

Based on my previous experience with several different iTunes related memory leaks I do not expect any resolution for several release cycles (4-6 months). Its a real drag do have to deal with the consequences of failure to test the software for basic memory leaks. To give you another example of how long this may take below is similar problem that got a lot of visibility with calls into support and clearly lots of affected users. It tool many release cycles for apple to clear up the problem.

+1 here as well ... iCloudService.exe sitting at about 1.2 GB within less than a day or reboot or service restart. Performance Monitor shows no disk or network activity when I check at various random times. I have minimal features enabled within iCloud, presently just My Photo Stream, which has minimal changes to content over this period of time (a few iPhone snaps in a given day).

+1 here as well. I've been trying to troubleshoot the problem for several days. iCloudService.exe takes about 1.8 GB within a day of use and it's rather unstable. It also takes a full CPU core when things start going downhill. Running iCloud 4.1 with iTunes 12.3.0.44 on a Win7 64bit Ultimate. Very disappointed with the quality of software shipped by Apple. Please don't roll out an update until you have fully tested the new version.

I have the same problem:

However, my devices are still running iOS 8 ⚠

The problem might not be connected directly with the installation of iOS 9, but with the latest release of iCloud control panel for Windows.

I can't tell exactly, when it started to hog so much memory (I've seen it as high es 986 MB continuing to increase, while in the past it has only been a negligible amount), but I know it must have been relatively recently. I know that, because my PC is running 24/7 and I have Task Manager open ALL the time, because Firefox is a notorious memory hog for years now and I like to keep an eye on it. But I have never noticed iCloud as a high user until very recently.

Also the iCloud application used to be in the Windows Control Panel, but isn't anymore. Besides the tray icon, it is now only to be found in the Start menu. I don't know if the iCloud release that changed that, could be responsible for this memory problem.

Similarities I noticed:

Like many people here, I am currently running Win7 64-Bit with iCloud 4.1 and iTunes 12.3.0.44.

I am not using iCloud for much at all. Everything is deactivated (iCloud Drive, Photos, Bookmarks), I only use it for my contacts.

But I've just seen, that there is an update to iTunes 12.3.1 available, which I will install now, and will report in a few days if it fixes this memory problem.
