I am back from the Apple Store. I went there after phone Iphone 6S locked up with a black screen and the home button go too hot to touch . The phone was reset and seems to work OK now. I had called Apple and was told I could be helped at the local Apple store. First, although the Apple phone technician said I had an appointment, I did not have an appointment. It appears that no one can get an appointment (even Apple itself) at any Apple store within 50 miles of Sarasota, FL. So, I elect to wait for about 1 hour as a walk in. The Apple greeter seem to think this was a good deal for me as the normal wait is much longer. Judge for yourself. Once the technician had my phone she ran some diagnostics over the WiFi. I asked why I had to drive 10 miles and wait an hour for something that could be done remotely but did not get an answer. The diagnostics indicated that my phone had not experienced a "dangerous temperature". Tell that to my sore thumb. I am sure that the CPU has at least one temperature sensor within to prevent over heading. If the temperature gets too hot it will automatically lower the clock rate (performance). This is standard practice for CMOS microprocessors. However, I have been unable to find if there are any other temperature sensors on the phone. Clearly there is none on the home button which was burning hot. In the end the technician described what happened as an "isolated incident" and logged it as such. She also said that it was not a "software issue" and that if it happened again I may qualify for a replacement. My option is this is a design flaw in at least four ways. First, the home button can get very very hot. Second, there is no sensor in the phone that detects this overheated condition. Third, the problem cannot be fixed with a software or firmware update. Fourth, Apple has no clue what causes the problem. Of course Apple could prove me wrong by acknowledging the problem and issuing a fix but that would be a good thing. I hope they do. I also hope that the hire more help so it is possible to get an appointment at the store. Customer service is important and it was a struggle to get any.
