My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire. I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

Just had the same problem on 6s 64gb. Phone was working fine all day. Went to use the phone and it wouldn't power up, just a dark screen, and a very hot home button. I called Apple Support. They ran remote diagnostics and found nothing wrong. At their suggestion I held down the power button and the home button and the phone powered back on normally after about 10 seconds. I thought it might be an overheat due to the new case, but in researching overheat situations I saw that a triangular symbol should have popped up as a warning. The phone itself didn't feel hot, just the home button.

iPhone 6s 128gb. This happened to me this morning. When I set my alarm at 10pm last night my phone was fine and charged to about 80%. I woke up at 7:15am (I am supposed to be at work at 7:30 mind you. Thank goodness I get iMessage my boss through my iPad) to no alarm and my phone not working. My home button was very warm to the touch. I tried to reset it by holding the side button down & home button at least 50 times. I went to the AT&T store and of course it turned on for them doing exactly what I did. AT that point my battery was at 12%. I bought my phone on 1/1/16. Not even 6 months old. Now I have to go to the Apple store to see what and if there is a problem. From reading these other posts I am assuming they will find nothing wrong with it. I am still making payments on this thing. I am not a happy girl.

Same thing just happened to me, my phone was charging but at 100% I unplugged it and took off the case thinking it was over heating but the rest of the phone was normal temps true, just the home button was extremely hot. My phone is fully updated to the iOS 9.3.2 and I can't get to an Apple Store as I live 2 hours away from the closest store with no car. I hope this isn't an ongoing problem but seen as its been almost a year since the original post and I bought my 6s in January you would have thought they'd fixed it by now.

Happened to me a second time today. Was in my pocket and brought it and black screen and noticed the home button was warm but not scorching like the first time.

I'm assuming i managed to catch it early this time since it wasn't super hot.

Owned the device less than a month. T-Mobile won't do anything since I can't replicate the problem.

Very disappointed. I think next time it happens I'm not going to let it reboot and just let it stay hot and take it in then and have them touch the button and see how they can deny me then.

I bought my phone on July 20th. On July 29th, while my phone was charging when I touched it, the touch button was so burning hot I just had to retract my fingers. The phone dropped and immediately got cracked too.

We went to one apple store, they said the diagnostic indicate nothing is wrong.

Next day, the other apple store said thermal sensor indicate no problem. But apps keep on crashing and asked me to contact apple support.

As usual apple store declined that there is any thermal issues. The manager also said, he didn't hear any issues regarding touch button overheating and will not replace my phone.

It is more likely that they refused to replace the phone under warranty because you dropped and broke it. Did they offer you an out of warranty replacement for your damaged phone?

I just tried pressing mine and it clicks like it should so I don't think mine is just because of the home button not depressing properly. Let's hope this works for you and doesn't fail again out of warranty David. As mine is already a replacement phone for a brand new phone, I am expecting it to be replaced with a brand new one rather than just being repaired. I should not have to put up with a faulty replacement phone. All the best

Hi, Thank you to everyone for posting how to fix this issue. I've had my phone for 6 months now, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. I realized that since I do not have a house phone, that I would be unable to call anyone without their numbers.

I feel like I should go to the Apple store to have this phone replaced before the year is up. The cost of the phone should warrant a replacement if it is not working correctly. I had my blackberry for over 4 years without an issue, but everyone kept telling me I needed to get out of the dark ages and get an Iphone.

Has anyone else been able to get their phones replaced from Apple without a problem? I have the Iphone 6S Plus.

Thank you.

Had exactly the same issue as a number of these posts. iPhone 6 S was not responding and thought power had drained, was at 50 % when used 10 min earlier. About hour later I Plugged in to charge it back up. No response from phone on charging, however after 5 min the home button was Red hot ! Thanks to these posts I followed the reset, and phone back on working, now down to 20 %. Clearly this is an issue as we can't all be having thos issue without some system glitch. Apple please investigate, before someone has a fire.

NO need to reply to my rhetorical question, Meg, but thank you. Knowledge of a warranty is cold comfort when one is considering that a major manufacturer creates defective product intentionally in order to pull a fast one on the public. I don't know if you work for Apple, or what, but please spare me your platitudes, especially in relation to my $650 piece of instant obsolecence. Thanks.

Why is the warranty "cold comfort"? If your device is covered by warranty, it will be replaced.

if you just want to complain, this is not the proper venue. This is a user-to-user technical support forum. Apple isn't reading here. You can use the feedback link for your rant:

http://www.apple.com/feedback

Or, you can use the Contact Us link at the bottom right of every page for further information on how to contact Apple and let them know of your displeasure.

Your phone is not "instantly obsolete". In all likelihood, you can have it replaced at no cost to you. I do understand that wold rob you of the opportunity for righteous indignation but, it would get your a working phone. Expecting perfection in this world is going to lead you to a lifetime of disappointment and frustration.

That's what happened to me just right now. My iPhone 6s 64 GB was bought almost 6 months from now and it had no problems so far but lately I had a few minute issues, but nothing major. However today without any warning it just turned off and the home button was on fire. I tried the method you described and up and running right now. Thank you.
