Hi,

Just trying to clear my Iphone 5 as I've just upgraded to iphone 6S and when I go into Reset - Erase all contents and settings it asks for Apple password, put it in and it comes up with the message - Verification failed, there was an error connection to the Apple ID server?

This may be my fault as I did a Reset all settings first. how do i rectify it and clear all the info off my old phone?

I've reset my wifes phone (upgraded hers too) and it's gone ok by doing the Reset-Erase all contents and settings first rather than Reset all setting.

I realise a lot of you have already found solutions for your issues but no-one seems to have mentioned another possibility which I came across this morning.

I ran the software update for El Cap to grab the latest version, and once I'd restarted I was confronted with a "cannot connect to Apple ID server" message as well. The main issue here is that it asks you before booting into the OS, so you can't use any of the UI tools... Anyways I'm running OS X Server and I could totally foresee the issue, I SSH'd onto the server from my laptop and sure enough, the services hadn't started. This had meant my DNS was pointing to 127.0.0.1 and so wasn't responding at all... There are two solutions;

  1. Start the DNS service from the CLI (I didn't bother as the OS hasn't booted and I could only remember how to do 2 on the CLI...)
  2. Repoint the DNS with; sudo networksetup -setdnsservers "Ethernet 1" 8.8.8.8 (or whatever your DNS should be set to, etc)

I have the same problem trying to connect to Apple ID Server from my MacBook pro running El Capitan. Are you saying the I have to install and run the Kaspersky software in order to solve the issue? Explain this, please, is not clear for me. Are there any solution without install this antivirus? I have no antivirus installed at this moment in my Mac.

I am having the same problem, unable to connect to Apple ID server. This is only on my Macbook pro. I've sent support emails, and the response has been twice now "we'll be in touch". The suggestions from support to try-make sure you have the latest updates. As my app icon is showing that there are updates ready to install, but I can't install as I can't sign in--

I am able to connect on my PC to iTunes, as well as my phone, (not iPhone) and a tablet. So it is this computer-the macbook pro. I hope this can be fixed somehow soon. My next step will be to go to the Apple store, I think?

I had a similar problem on El Capitan. My credential worked fine online and on iOS but they would not work on my laptop. I could not solve the problem by bypassing my work's proxy. I could not solve this problem by elevating my system privileges.

I was able to resolve this problem by temporarily ignoring problems with certificates. Inasmuch as this solved the problem, it suggests that there is a problem with the certificate that my laptop could not ignore.

I opened keychain access and then opened keychain access preferences. Next I selected the certificates tab and took a screenshot of the current page and current settings and pasted it somewhere that I could refer to later. I set the top two fields - Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP), and Certificate Revocation List (CRL) - to the value of "off". Then I was able to login to iCloud.

After I logged in to iCloud, then I returned those two fields back to their previous values and drove off into the sunset.
