ios 9.0.2 update -> Now touchscreen problems!

I updated my iPhone 5s 64g to iOS 9.0.2 from 9.0.1 last night over wifi, immediately the phone started misregistering my finger press and touch locations. The screen now intermittently opens apps, fails to allow the keyboard to be used correctly, will register touches when I am not even touching the phone. I had the phone in a lifeproof case (nuud) with screen protector (yes this is how it's supposed to be done!) - after the errors began I tried removing the case, removing the screen protector, and hard resetting the phone - this is NOT a hardware issue!

Hard resetting the iphone will sometimes clear the issue for a few minutes, then it begins again sporadically and intermittently - yet often enough that it is a huge headache to deal with. I can now pretty much only reliably use my phone through siri, and only then if I can get the phone to unlock from a hard reset! I spoke to apple support via chat, they recommended that I backup to icloud and restore the phone as "new iphone" and then only to restore data from the icloud backup. I made an appointment with my local "genius" bar (ugh do I hate saying that) though since this device is now outside of the 1 year warranty & applecare, And even though the update caused the error they will likely only replace the device with a replica for $269...

SUPER FRUSTRATED AT YOU APPLE!!! Give us a way to roll back these failed updates!!!

Update: When the iphone is plugged in to my macbook pro the touchscreen problems completely go away! possible emergency stop-gap solution... may as well tape my iphone to my macbook and walk around with it boombox-style. That's true apple swag.

Last new on my screen

I have enough of an unusable phone. Went to my third meeting at genius bar last night. I will drop my phone this afternoon for 194$ replacement screen on my 5S. I need the phone to be working and not ready to buy a new one.

I’m still convinced that the screen defect was managed by the OS in anything lower than 9.0.2. And we have to manage it with our money for repair.

As the effect of that, I was planning replacement of my ipad 2. Cancelled until further notice. I need to replace my laptop first. I will go Ms Surface to satisfy boot need. I was also planning to replace my aging pebble. Cancelled until I change my phone, could be an android by then.

Apple won’t get much of my money in the next year, unless they do a big improvement on quality.

Thanx Linac, currently I am receiving 10 WiFi signals (8 are locked,) one is from my iMac, and one is my router. I live in the city, and WiFi abounds. I only use the router network, for my Bluray player. I asked my iPod to forget that network, but it still offers to log me into it. The problem does does seem to be involved wt WiFi though, because touch failed every time I attempted to play wt it. I just turned my WiFi off, and the problem seems to occur less often, but it is not solved.

I tried forget this network, but my iPod still would automatically log me in, to each old networks. The problem has something to do wt Wifi, because turning it off helped, but didn't eliminate the problem. Also closing out of all, but the currently used program helps some. Does anyone think that perhaps the iPod, could be getting to warm to clearly register touches? The iPod feels slightly warmer to the touch, and perhaps the temperature fluctuations have something to do wt it. Before touch completely fails, it will fail intermittently and, and then after a minute, it will start to register touches in the wrong place. It almost always seems be able to allow me to swipe right, and allow me to enter my number password, use an app, for a couple of minutes, before touch fails. Then only turning it off, an on again, will fix this, before it fails again, shortly after. I also always completely close out of all, but the currently used app, because when theirs more running, it seems to make touch functions fail even faster. Question could an over warming device, cause irrevocable damage? I have a thin case around my iPod touch, for protection, and this never caused problems in the past.

Ouch! Thats a real bummer. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to fix this! You could,

* attempt to simply clear your settings

*hard reset again

*backup just your important data (to avoid software corruption) and reset

*or simply download the iOS 9.1 Beta 5 Softward, which I have.

iOS 9.1 Beta is a strong platform, and it is faster and more responsive than iOS 9.0.2. I highly recommend this.

Fair warning with the beta-Once you go Beta, you can't go back. You can, essentiall, but it's quite painful in my definition.

hope this helps,

Frankie H.

I'm sorry you feel that way! to fix your software issues, I recommend checking your available storage, and cleaning up a minimum of 750MB. I as well reccomend you switch some backround app refreshing. Lastly, I recommend jump to the beta program. The beta seems to handle hard preformanice beter that iOS 9.0.2 (personal experiance)

And I totally see your frustration! Going to the Genius Bar so many times must be a pain!

HOpe this helps,

Frankie H.

Ok, the issue with unresponsive screen is fixed with 194$ less in my pocket. Look like ios 9.0.2 is not working with less than perfect screen, you might have non perfect screen from day 1. If you have apple care warranty run to apple, they will replace the screen on their budget. If you are not covered under warranty you have some choice. Wait for a ios fix ( if they do it), pay apple a lot of money to fix their problem or may be to a third party reipair shop to check screen connection or repair (didn't have time to lose on that option anymore)(businness and emergency phone)

Over all, loved apple product, i now considered them unreliable, now their going down, i will try other product non apple for a few year. Could be back with them when they will be back in game. It is a sad conclusion. In the few hour i'm browsing the web for phone and smart watch replacement and i ´m getting excited.

I am always telling myself let's try a new one instead of a un trusty one.

Hey apple if your are their, if you believe your product can live more than 2 year, why don't you put a 2 year base warranty.

Hi everyone!

I'm sorry to hear everyone's frustration with the latest update!

I can tell you for sure that Apple is working hard to get a fix for this as it isn't very user friendly to anyone at the moment.

To make sure Apple gets the appropriate information that they need to make the right fixes, I encourage you to send them feedback about the latest update and the problems you have come across. The more that place feedback the faster the issue will be resolved.

You can place feedback here:

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of there day!

Hello everyone, I have this problem too. I bought a new model of iPhone 6 this week and from the first time I turn on the device, the touchscreen does not responding too. It is still happening from time to time on iOS 9.0.2. Only solution for this is lock and unlock the screen. Is it hardware or software issue? Can I use my warranty for this issue? Did somebody of you solved this problem?

Please, give me somebody with the same problem some respond. I will appreciate it. THANK YOU!

hello

read my earlyer post for detail, if you are uunder warranty run to apple. at this time they will diagnose the issue as hardware and change your screen(fantom touch test in apple tools). my opinion is that this could be solve by software in a few week or month when apple is tired of paying screen for nothing.

good luck
