Huawei internet dongle not working in El Capitan

My friend updated to EL Capitan yesterday (1st Oct) to the official release version of El Capitan. He uses an Internet Dongle/fob/adapter (that connects to a cellular network) to connect to the internet.

He had no issues with it while using it in Yosemite, but after the update to El Capitan it is not working.

I have checked the Internet dongle with other computers and it works fine. therefore I believe the issue may be with Java thats running on OS X 10.11

The internet dongle being used is a Huawei E173. It is working on a 3G GSM network in Sri Lanka (Dialog Axiata).

Any workaround this would be great.

I have the same problem. Huawei e398 using LTE network. I think we must wait till huawei make new drivers .

Is there a fix for this issue? Java update maybe? That used to work for me with earlier versions of OS X

Maybe this could help. I have the same trouble with Huawei dongle but I did not install it yet : Java for OS X 2015-001

Ok. I found workaround.

First we must start computer in recovery ( cmd +R during startup). Then after system started go to terminal and enter csrutil disable.

After tehat restart computer and install software from Huawei ( i have unbranded Mobile Partner) and then insert modem. Now it's starts and you can use internet as usually.

Restart computer after that and again start in recovery mode and now enter in terminal csrutil enable.

Reboot again and you can use El Capitan 🙂.

Hi Guys

I am facing the same problems, I tried a lot of things but none works.

Even at last four time a got a kernel panic in El Capitan.

I will really appreciate for any help to fix this problems.

Thanks Felippe - it appears to work with my e176G dongle but not perfectly.

1. If I enable csrutil as you suggest and reboot then I still have the same problem again.

2. If csrutil is disabled I can only connect to the internet if I turn off Wi-Fi.

Any thoughts, e.g. is it safe to be online if System Integrity Protection is disabled?

Your solution helped me too.

I have a different internet key (Olivetti Olicard 200) but the behavior was the same.

In order to have it work I have to leave the SIP (System Integrity Protection) off.

Hi Felippe.

I have tried this out. But after you put csrutil enable, the modem cannot detect any sim card inside it again.

Is there any other way workaround? Please help.

The first installation must be done with csrutil disable. Prior to this please remove all files with huawei in name in System/Extensions and Library/System/Extensions . Please also delete Mobile Partner or other application related to your modem.

Delete also all files realted to huawei from ~/Library/LaunchAgents and Library/LaunchAgents.

Then install software from your vendor or i can post here installation file which came from Huawei (Mobile Partner).
