Huawei internet dongle not working in El Capitan

My friend updated to EL Capitan yesterday (1st Oct) to the official release version of El Capitan. He uses an Internet Dongle/fob/adapter (that connects to a cellular network) to connect to the internet.

He had no issues with it while using it in Yosemite, but after the update to El Capitan it is not working.

I have checked the Internet dongle with other computers and it works fine. therefore I believe the issue may be with Java thats running on OS X 10.11

The internet dongle being used is a Huawei E173. It is working on a 3G GSM network in Sri Lanka (Dialog Axiata).

Any workaround this would be great.

After upgrading to 10.11.1 i loose connection to modem, but after repeating teh steps which i describe earlier all back to normal.

Huawei released its update to the el capitan yesterday, so now it should work out just fine.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for the update... My friend tried it out and it worked perfectly. He first uninstalled all old drivers, then enabled with csrutil, after that he installed the updated software from the link.

A little more info which can be helpful

If the Huawei is not shown in the side panel you need to ad it "+"

You will also need to add the *99# as the phone number if using Mobitel. It gets erased when you remove and reinstall

Thank you for your help.

I uninstalled the old software, then with csrutil enable, I proceed to install first the tool and guide update software and then the stick mobile partner software.

Finally I connect the dongle and All run perfect.

Hi Felippe30.
Thx for helping—but your workaround is NOT working on my MacOS 10.11 and with my Huawei stick “E3531 s-2”.
Before installation of Huawei’s new software at least a folder window was popping up with a start button of the HiLink.app (which quitted itself immediately).
After installation nothing happens at all anymore.

I’ve checked Huawei’s hint to

[PRODUCT_VERSION]

value=22.001.27.00.03

What else can be the issue?

I am using a monoprice usb 2.0 Ethernet Adapter.

I certainly wouldn’t leave if off permanently but until the vendor delivers a driver that works properly with 10.11 I’d probably consider the trade-off worth it.
