iTunes 12.3 with el Capitan not responding

I just installed OS X El Capitan on my iMac and my iTunes (12.3) has not been working since. When iTunes is open, I can't click on anything. I know it's not a mouse problem, because the mouse works with any other application or program.

I had exactly the same problem - my "rant" was deleted by a moderator - no more "rant like" than some of the commentary on this discussion - and of course no actual useful advice was given... hey ho .....Net net I struggled with problem playing preferences etc

In the end I installed "ecoute" so I could at least listen to my music without the spinning beach ball (it interface with iTunes playlists etc) and seems to work without the delays.

Certainly does not solve the problem and I agree 100% with all the comments it should not be necessary and that Apple really should do better.... but at least I can now enjoy the music until they fix iTunes which should be both Urgent and Important.

Just thought I would share in case some folks were running out of patience and wanted to enjoy their music.

Anyone know a way to open iTunes activity window so I could see if it thinks it is doing something? Waiting patiently between (not responding) spinning colorball times I can get to the top window and pull down the window options from the menu bar, but no amount of time seems to get to where I can choose activity window, which has no keyboard shortcuts I know.

Hello everyone

I have been following this message group for over a week since the same thing was happening to me.

I read in a similar message board that downloading iTunes again will fix the problem.

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

since it was not working at all there is nothing to lose.

I re dowloaded it directly from the original website and after installing it and restarting the system it worked!!!! finally!!!!

hope this helps.

I feel your frustration. Same problems. However when I opened iTunes and held option to select a different library, it opened without problems. No freezing or any other issues. This is not the solution I want though. I really don't want to have to create a new library and move my entire music collection to it and have to recreate playlists ect

Since updating to iTune 10.3.1 back on October 22nd I've had nothing but problems with iTunes. It would take an average of four minutes to launch. Once launched it would run very slowly. No matter what I'd try to do - from simply playing a song to shopping in the iTunes Store - it would take at least 1 to 2 minutes for it to happen, and in the meantime I'd get the spinning beachball of doom. I tried wiping out iTunes and re-installing it through the iTunes download on the Apple website, but since it was still iTunes 10.3.1 that did not work at all. It was still slow. So I downloaded AppZapper... "zapped" iTunes... then went into my Time Machine Backups - back to October 21st (the day before I had updated to 10.3.1) - and restored iTunes back to version 10.3. Everything seems to be working fine now. It launches quickly and there's no delay with anything I try to do within iTunes. I did not lose any of my music library, playlists or anything. It's much, MUCH better... and I'm no longer cursing at my iMac!
