iOS 4.3.5 error 9 when updating to 9.0.2

Dear Mac Experts,

I've been having issues updating my cousin's old iPad 2 WiFi (MC979ZP) from 4.3.5 to 9.0.2. I keep having Error 9 whether I use DFU or any other method. Apart from that, Apple has also stopped signing all versions of Firmware prior to 9.0.2, therefore any older firmware is unusable (Error 3194 without fix even using System32). I was also trying firmware 8.4.1 and older firmware.

By the way, I've tried many different original cables and many different computers, both Mac and Windows, including the garbage bin.

According to Apple's HQ, this could be an "Untested Issue with latest iTunes and iOS9 having a negative effect on very old versions of iOS being upgraded to iOS9".

I'm writing here to seek help from you, if there is any other solution to this issue, and also to hopefully notify Apple's Support on this issue and hope they will fix it on their next version of iTunes.

Warmest Regards,

Mak ********

I work in a school district with approx 500 Ipad 2's running 9.2 just fine. Unfortunately we have a Cart of 25 that were never updated past 4.3.5, It is silly that they do not fix this issue. And to answer your questions I was just hired in August, no idea why they were never updated, they just used them to access the internet. This needs to be fixed immediately. I do like apple products but there are other alternatives and this is just poor service.

I am k-12 education and we have the same problem with a couple and have contacted Apple and it is a problem in the software. They have their engineers working to fix the problem with we hope a future update. All people that have had this problem please call Apple and create a ticket with them. Which in turn will help this along.

Well. I am pleased to say that my ipad worked suddenly today. I was also getting error 9, tried everything i saw in internet like i said in my earlier post. I was hopeless and just left ipad in my drawer for about 25 days. Today, i just wanted to give a try since i received update in itunes and before that i just plugin in charger for 10 min. I saw that the home screen and thats it i went crazy.

My suggestion if you guys are facing similar problem, just left your ipad for several days, may be until the battery fully drain out. And then plug into the charger for 15 mins. hope it helps!!

Same problem with 4.3.3 trying to upgrade to 9.02.

Tried to change Mac, cables, no firewall…etc.

For the ones having the iPad stuck after the unsuccessful upgrade, i recommend Wondershare Dr. Fone. Also in the trial version is able to restore he iPad (or in other words unlock) the iPad so that you can use it again.

Tried to take the iPad to a local repairing store with no success.

May be I'll try to take it to an official Apple store to see if for some X00 Euros they can substitute it… It's silly, but we know Apple…Good products but lot of money...

Hi all -

My iPad 2 with iOS 4.3.5 also was stuck in the update process with error 9. Dr. Wondershare did work so that at least it's not stuck and is functional again but it's still iOS 4.3.5 so not helpful since I need an app now that requires newer iOS. I've tried doing the update from multiple computers with a variety of security settings. Always gets stuck. FYI, this is a work device that I was just given for field inspections - I would have updated the device if it had been mine but it wasn't. It may not have seen the inside of an office for some time. Please fix this for all those institutions out there that can't buy the latest and greatest every year!

Thanks!

Anyome that is having this problem please contact Apple support no matter if you have Apple care or not. 1-800-275-2273 The more we call hopefully the faster this gets fixed. Due to low customer impact this problem has just come to light. Call support and give them your s/n and problem. And they will ask if you want to send in and say no you would like to see a future iOS update to fix problem. I was told Apple rarely reads these posts. So call call call.
