Wake on Excessive Wake drains battery on sleep

Ive been having this problem where my computer drains to 0% battery overnight when in sleep. When I'm connected to my router/wifi, the computer never sleeps, wakes up multiple times a minute, and drains all battery. See a sample below:

Turns out, a bunch of people in this forum have had this problem. I've tried everything suggested. Turning off Wifi before sleep WORKS so i figured it was a problem with the computer. But..it seems that me and a few other people have come to this conclusion: Its a problem only with certain routers.

I tested to see if this is my router by leaving my Wifi ON, and unplugging my router. It sleeps fine with Wifi ON and router OFF. So its the connection between the router and the computer that is doing this.

its a Time Warner Router.

Im posting this so Apple is aware of the issue. Has anyone found a fix?

I am experiencing the same problem as the original poster "dontpush". I see very similar output in my terminal when I type: syslog |grep -i "Wake reason". This problem arose immediately after my update to El Capitan. I am using a MacbookPro (Early 2015) on a Time Warner router.

This is getting to be pretty painful now. Still no acknowledgement or response from Apple? I returned a Dell XPS because of all its display issues; I wasn't expecting the same from a Macbook :-( Hopefully it gets sorted soon.

Unfortunately, no acknowledgement or response from Apple that I am aware of. You would think Apple would take notice given that a number of similar threads have been initiated. For example, see: Re: El Capitan Wakes From Sleep. I am growing tired of my only working solution: turning off wifi prior to sleep.

Yeah, the Genius bar and a support phone call later and nobody knows about this issue. The guy at the genius bar talked to all of his coworkers and called some people higher up and still never have heard of it. I showed him these threads and he said "well there are 'millions' of these out there and only 20 people on the forum have noticed a problem so its not that big of an issue, its understandable that we havent heard about it".

They told me they would just straight up replace my computer with a new one at this point. Im thinking about just taking the offer and seeing if it still does this. If so, we will know its definitely an issue with the OS and certain Routers.

This is the scenario that I feared. I am confident that the number of users affected by this issue will steadily grow. I am grasping at straws here, but I was wondering if you, or anyone else following this post, happens to be using BitTorrent?

Here is a list of programs that i thought might be affecting this.

Adobe Updates

iDrive Backup

Virtualbox

Transmission

Transmit

I removed all the launch agents and daemons for those programs and it is still happening even without those processes going on anywhere

I have none of the programs mentioned by "dubdanger" and "dontpush".

I conjecture that not many people report this issue in the forum because they do not have the habit of switching off their charger after putting the computer to sleep. Therefore, we should make more noise in this thread to get Apple's attention.

Has anyone tried to downgrade to Yosemtie? I honestly dont know if this was happening before El Captian, but im almost positive it was happening before i upgraded.

For me, this problem arose immediately after I upgraded to El Capitan. I never experienced the problem with the latest version of Yosemite.

To the best of my knowledge, during the one month I was using Yosemite, there was no incidence of battery totally drained overnight. Aside from the problem with Microsoft Office 365, the issue here is another one I immediately noticed after the upgrade.

I'm not using any of the applications mentioned here, and I am pretty much certain that the issue has been brought on by upgrading to El Capitan. No issues whatsoever before that, and permanent battery-drain-on-wifi-while-asleep since then.

No VPN here. All networking and wifi is standard setup. Router is a Time Warner dual modem/wifi with standard and 5Ghz option.

Is everyone here using a router with a 5ghz option? Trying to rule out possible causes.
