Contacts: Entry slow or sluggish

I have an issue that’s been a bit of a nuisance for me with Contacts. Not related to El Capitan as it was behaving poorly with Yosemite & Mavericks but seems to be degrading with each upgrade.

The OSX Contacts app is very sluggish when editing or entering contact information. Whether it is an existing contact or a brand new contact the response is very slow. When entering/updating data the display of the typed characters will occur a few seconds after actual entry. I always have to wait for it to finish before I move on to the next field. The delay is enough of an issue that if I tab to or click in a blank field and immediately begin typing, a few seconds later the characters will begin appearing one at a time and usually with the first and second characters transposed.

Has anyone else noticed such behavior? If so, have you found a resolution?

I too have been suffering from the sluggish iCloud contacts search - I absolutely hate that - it's the bane of my iPhone and iPad use and such a pity for a business user.

But I have found a work around: Use the spotlight search.

You can quickly find the contacts needed and its actually even more immediate than using the contacts app and is a brilliant user experience (except that you cannot open the contact from the search which is odd and from spotlight results you cannot edit details). I suggest you manage the spotlight search options to exclude all apps except the contacts to narrow the search and catch the right results.
