Apple Music not working on iPhone 6 after iOS 9.1

I foolishly updated both iPhone 6 and iPad Mini with the new iOS 9.1 on the day of release, and spent all day yesterday trying to make Apple Music work. around 11pm, it finally worked on my iPad after login/signing on and off for a few hours, today it shows everything fine, but don't play anything. After communicating with Apple Music Help on Twitter I decided to re-install it all on the iPhone 6, hours of the signing on and off frozen, Apple Music on the phone shows For You, New and Connect OK, but won't play, Radio doesn't load at all and My Music is empty, not linking to my Music Match on ICloud. Now (Saturday 16:26), I can only listen to my music and Beats 1 from my main MacBook Pro... I definitely think this iOS 9.1 is a massive mistake. I am trying to reset my iPhone from scratch as I type this, backing it up from the Cloud from 3 days ago, but I launched this 1 hour ago and it still does nothing.... Not very convenient to do the Beats Run tomorrow if I need to png in my laptop in a rucksack as no small device is usable.

It is not so much to be patient just about the phone, I use mine mainly for Apple Music and my ITunes Match, IPod Tounch doesn't resolve the issue as an alternative as it does not grab internet outside of Wifi range without using an IPhone hotspot, otherwise I would have gone for an Android, but Apple Music is not supported yet... And as of tonight 22:00, my IPad stopped again...

So a few weeks back I reported that it started working again. Within a day it broke again. Randomly every day or two, streaming will work. Downloading always breaks after 2 minutes, but streaming can work for a day almost.

After breaking, I usually get the Join Appke Music prompt that freezes if you interact with it.

It's so sad that they haven't fixed this yet.

I keep trying to purchase an app, but it never downloads!

Something is wrong with iCloud Music Library and iOS.

Did some experimenting tonight on beta iOS 9.2.

Like others here, my son's "family" AppleID gets Apple Music and the App Store working. My question is whether this is because I have an old 2003 account ending in ".mac" while his is more recent and ends in ".me". My wife's phone works fine with her ".me" account. Anyone else here have a ".mac" account?

A few times, after entering my son's ID, I signed out and then put in my ID. Sometimes that worked, and I was back in business. The problem was if I turned off the phone, when I turned it back on, my ID was there but nothing worked. On the other hand, if I kept my son's ID and turned off the phone, it rebooted and everything worked. This system will work fine for a while, but it doesn't allow me to use my iTunes Match or sync my iBooks. So it goes.

Gave all this info to the Feedback Assistant. Hope it helps.

My woes continue. I had written to Tim Cook at the email provided in one of the posts above. Got no reply.

I have complained on their Twitter complaint handle. They have created a ticket but are yet to respond.

5 fold problems happen:

1. The links from email stop working

2. Apple Music goes for a toss 'An error occurred' is what is shown, and no downloads happen

3. App Store stops working - can't download any app nor do already installed apps show 'Open' or 'Update' buttons.

4. Under Settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Under my Apple Id the line 'Touch ID is enabled for all purchases' disappears - Usually I see that only and know that the thing has again broken!

5. Music will not play via USB cable connected to my car stereo ( it does play via Bluetooth, though).

Mine worked the max for 3 days Fri, Sat, Sunday and today morning again it went off, on its own. Prior to this, it lasted the max for 2 days. So I don't know whether to feel happy or not about the progress!!

Usually comes back after restarting - sometimes two to three times - and then how long it will last is anyone's guess. Sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes an hour, and if I am terribly lucky, full 3 days (like last time).

I am still wondering if this issue is there because I have a gmail id as my Apple Id - is it due to some conflict there, although it sounds very silly, since it used to work so well before I updated to this doomed iOS 9.1?

I have tried rebooting, resetting and a lot of other things (other than re-installing iOS or doing it from my previous back up - that's coz my PC is running slow and I don't want to risk losing data).

Also, tried signing out of the id and re-signing back in. Did nothing, except that all my songs that I had downloaded (or rather, made offline) from Apple Music disappeared. Had to do make them offline again when it was in the running week on Sat/Sun weekend last. Can't do it all over again as they were some 100 odd songs!!!!!! That's quite a huge data load to waste again, on something which is not my fault at all. Plus, it's cumbersome.

I seriously don't want to switch to Android. But if this is not sorted out soon I will have no option left. Sad, because one thing that I swore by (and was a butt of jokes with all my friends) was that Apple has reliability and stability - and this, despite Apple not being very enthusiastic about its operations here in India ( Apple Music is pretty basic, No Apple News started off here, no Apple Pay even!) !!!

Tragically, that itself, seems to have gone now.

Mainhoonhero,

You've described my phone exactly, right now, down to the TouchID thing.

If I go to the Passcode menu in Settings, every time I turn on TouchID for iTunes purchases, it turns itself off.

Every time the phone turns on I get the "X can't be installed/purchased" errors, and it takes a million tries/reboots to buy an app!

(I also have a gmail Apple ID, if that means anything.)

Back from today's appointment at the "Genius bar ",

Good news: they gave me a new IPhone 6

Bad news: out of the box it is operating with IOS 8.4.1, and Apple Music was not working properly until IOS 9... With 8.4.1, adding Apple Music to my library was not working, and creating playlists either. So still got an half working Apple Music...

Other bad news: new appointment meant new employee, who never heard of our issues. I mentioned the thread and she said: "0h, I never read anything on Apple Support Discussions".

Back to square one... IPad worked for a couple of hours only today. I don't know what to do anymore

I got this problem also after upgrading my ipad air 2 from ios 8.4 to 9.1. Apple music was stack on crowd concert background, it was very frustrating actually. what i've done are :

1. sign out Itune store

2. sign out app store

3. show apple music off. Setting ---> Music ---> apple music off

4. Network reset. Setting ----> General ----> Reset ----> Reset network setting

After this, it was looks like that this ipad doing restart and after that this apple music is normal

Dear #Apple, I don't care about "emojis", I don't care about new fonts, new wallpaper, Touch ID, "Live Photos" and all this childish stuff, as long as I can : open hyperlinks in my emails, download my banking app, and enjoy #AppleMusic and #Beats1. Fix #IOS 9.1 once for all or bring me back 9.02 for f*** sake!

I've also asked about downgrading to 9.0.2, no dice. This is getting depressing, that Medium article is just bad news. At this point I'm too locked in to Apple's ecosystem to start seriously thinking about switching to Android, but another couple months of this garbage ought to do it. Like at least let us migrate our purchases to a new ID, or something. This is a complete collapse in customer service.

Apple corrupted our IDs and it's very hard to fix a corrupted ID. Waiting on my Samsung and then I'm done with apple. I have a MacBook, apple watch, Apple TV and even had an iPad. theres not enough of us to make a difference. Apple will just sweep it under the rug and move on while everyone here is told to get a new apple ID

I've given up with the Senior Technical Support Advisor who was supposedly dealing with my case. He's gone into hiding and clearly hasn't got a clue how to offer a solution. I've managed to update and manage my apps through iTunes on my mac. The email hyperlinks are a minor annoyance but I suppose I can live with that for now. Luckily my apple music was still the free trial so I've renewed my Spotify subscription. If this isn't resolved within the next few weeks I suppose i'll have to make bigger decisions over switching phones

Same here. I have been a faithful Apple customer since 1996, always happy to pay the price for items that were good quality and totally reliable. Yesterday for the very first time, I returned the IPod Touch, which in other circumstances I would have kept, especially with Christmas around the corner. I too am locked in Apple ecosystem, in the household, we have 2 MacBook Pro, 3 IPads, 2 IPhones, and every Beats head/earphones you can name! For the very first time, I didn't stop to look at eventually getting an Apple TV, I didn't stop to look at anything, I left the store very depressed and sad... I am lost for words, I feel cheated, used, abused... my purchased music over the years is safe on an old generation IPod, and on 2 external hard drives, I bought some IBooks, which I will be upset to loose, but I will never buy another one, in case I ultimately have to create a new account and new ID... If at least someone from Apple would post here, "We are sorry, we are doing all we can to fix it", but no, we are totally ignored!

Nov 10, 2015 5:21 AM in response to seant23

Sean, I'm curious about the corrupted Apple ID thing, wouldn't the fact that the IDs work fine on Mac and Apple TV suggest that this is an issue with iOS, not the ID? There could be some nuance I'm missing here, feel free to set me straight.

Can't disagree with your assessment of how Apple will likely handle this. Honestly if faced with the choice between a new Apple ID and jumping to Android, I might just go with the new ID. Either way I'd be hitting the reset button on all my purchases, but one option is still less drastic than the other. It'd be nice to think I'd be punishing Apple somehow for bad behavior, but even if everyone on this thread switched to Android, would they even notice the blip?

Curious how other people see this, I'm still not decided on which way to go.

I agree with you, I've been having this problem for nearly three weeks. I never thought I would say it, but I'm disappointed in Apple. Apple music doesn't work and I pay for that service, I can't buy or download any apps, I can't update any apps unless I sign out of the App Store, hperlinks from email don't work...... Frustrating and infuriated. I was supposed to here from the store a couple of days later after I made an appointment last Thursday and the issue was escalated..... Never heard back. I sent the guy an email, and he is response was,'if people are writing articles on the internet about it, that Apple will take care of it....... Still waiting. Here's the article that I sent him http://pocket.co/solzRR . I'm extremely disappointed right now, everyone in my house has an iPad and an iPhone. Their products are deeply integrated into my family's life and work and school, and this is what I get...... No acknowledgement that there is even a problem, when obvious from this thread and the article that I imentioned in my comments earlier that a problem exists. My friends who own android devices are laughing at me.

I feel like I got dumped by the pretty girl that everyone told me not to date....
