Apple Music not working on iPhone 6 after iOS 9.1

I foolishly updated both iPhone 6 and iPad Mini with the new iOS 9.1 on the day of release, and spent all day yesterday trying to make Apple Music work. around 11pm, it finally worked on my iPad after login/signing on and off for a few hours, today it shows everything fine, but don't play anything. After communicating with Apple Music Help on Twitter I decided to re-install it all on the iPhone 6, hours of the signing on and off frozen, Apple Music on the phone shows For You, New and Connect OK, but won't play, Radio doesn't load at all and My Music is empty, not linking to my Music Match on ICloud. Now (Saturday 16:26), I can only listen to my music and Beats 1 from my main MacBook Pro... I definitely think this iOS 9.1 is a massive mistake. I am trying to reset my iPhone from scratch as I type this, backing it up from the Cloud from 3 days ago, but I launched this 1 hour ago and it still does nothing.... Not very convenient to do the Beats Run tomorrow if I need to png in my laptop in a rucksack as no small device is usable.

I wasted the better part of my day on the phone with Apple Support, even speaking with the clearly overworked Sr. Support person, to try and resolve this issue. My iPhone 6s plus was restored to factory settings as a new phone, though nobody suggested going back to the older version of the OS. The issue didn't occur until I updated to the current iOS, 9.1. Now my phone is like a new phone, and somehow my backup on the iCloud and my computer in iTunes got overwritten or erased. And I get to wait until Friday which is the earliest I can get an appt at the Apple Store 40 minutes away, so unless The Apple store hands me a new phone with all my contacts, apps and data installed from a magical backup, and can turn back time so that I can regain my work day (or compensate me for lost income), I'm looking another half day at least of trying to get this fixed. But enough griping, here are the symptoms:

  • No songs that I put into "My Music" appear, and only the 3 playlists I created appear, empty.
  • I can't log into Apple Music if I log out, which I've tried to see if it would make my music appear.
  • A hard reset (pressing the side and home buttons at the same time) will sometimes let me log in and play a song, but nothing appears in my "My Music" sections except for the 3 (now appearing empty) playlists I created. This worked very intermittently(like maybe 3 times) in my own debugging process and with Apple tech support over the phone.
  • Sometimes after a reset Apple Music suggests that I "join" even though I am a subscriber, and even when I am logged into my account.
  • Game Center won't come up, period. Possibly related, but I'm not sure. I questioned whether there's an authentication issue because of the persistent login issues.
  • Two games I recently paid for via the iTunes store won't move past the developer splash screen.
  • My payment method is accurate. I checked and Apple Music works fine on my laptop, with all of my songs and playlists in the "My Music" section, so I don't believe it's an issue with my payment method.

Seems odd to me that these are the first reports of this, as I've been having the issues since Monday night, less than 24 hours since the iOS was updated on my phone, and I put off updating for a few days. Apple Support claims that they have had no calls about this issue but mine.

Is there a way to go back to iOS 9.0, as everything seemed to work fine before this update? Thank you!

I tried this and all the other solutions suggested above. No success.

The one that worked for me was:

Try to reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on this device.

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Press and hold on the Home button
  • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

But I did have to try three times before it worked.

... Issues down here in South Africa too ;-)

I keep getting nagged to update my new phone to 9.1. I was reading the list of things the update fixes.

"This release includes new features, improvements and bug fixes, including:

  • Live Photos now intelligently senses when you raise or lower your iPhone, so that Live Photos will automatically not record these movements
  • Over 150 new emoji characters with full support for Unicode 7.0 and 8.0 emojis"

They forgot the next line:

"This update may prevent you from streaming music from Apple Music or iTunes Match, download or update apps, connect to USB devices, open links in email messages or sleep for more than four hours a night. "

Did that, on both iPhone and iPad, Apple Music on iPhone still not responding at all. on iPad, the option in Settings ICloud Music Library doesn't stay on, so my iCloud Music Library has gone. Talked to Apple they have no clue, could only schedule an appointment in my local store next saturday (no slot available before that), so, complete disaster all around. I was selected to do the Beats 1 Run tonight, but without listening to the show at the same time, I am not going to bother! So much for iOS 9.1! Now, I will wait a good week of other people having trouble before I will do any IOS updates... Luckily my MacBook is not affected...

Thanks for your help anyway... :-)

Well now the problem seems to be getting worse on my end. My lap top won't stream songs and now my iDevices won't even respond. I keep getting asked to join apple music after a few minutes of nothing. Obviously I'm already a subscriber.

Also, I can't view my Apple ID under the settings app. Something seriously messed up with this update. I hope Apple is on top of this.

ps. I did the on/off iPhone and Apple Music back to work but only a few songs... And yes, I updated my device to iOS 9.1 and this is a mess! I hope Apple can fix it soon.

THANKS FOR SAVING MY LIFE! hahaha

I am having the exact same issues with my iPhone 6 Plus after updating to iOS 9.1. I also cannot properly connect to the App or iTunes stores as the sign in either freezes (within the Settings or Apple Music apps) or the buttons don't work at all (iTunes app). I did a soft reset and a full restore but the issues still persist. Everything seems to as normal on my iPad and Macbook Pro so it is just an iPhone issue for me (for now).

Let's hope this gets noticed and fixed soon! Good luck everyone.

3 Days of login in & out, now Apple Music finally re-loaded my Icloud music and playlists, Radio still not loading, and to be honest I subscribed because of Beats 1. Now playing music I already purchased, it plays some tracks, but not all, and when I log back in, it tells me "could not purchase track such and such" or it downloads on my Ipad tracks I only want to listen from the Cloud. Links in emails not working now either. I won't give up! I love Apple products and I love their concept of Apple Music. What is more frustrating is that everything was absolutely perfect at last before IOS 9.1, and I didn't need that update, unless now maybe to show my discontent with the new Middle Finger emoji!

A few months ago I signed up for the free apple music subscription and happily downloaded music, making it available offline. I was playing music yesterday offline fine.

This morning when I went to play my music, none of it was available offline anymore. I noticed that I was no longer subscribed to apple music, think my free trial had run out, so I subscribed this morning and updated to 9.1, but am unable to get my previously downloaded music playlist to be available offline. It has only downloaded about 18 of 50 songs. I find this most upsetting as I need the music for my 4 hour round trip commute to and from work. As I only updated to 9.1 after I encountered this issue I am not sure it is related to the latest release, but perhaps it coincides with the expiration of the free trial?!

If I click on the ... next to an individual song within a playlist, there used to be a make available offline option in there as well, this is no the case though 😟

I will try the reset network settings thingy other people have mentioned above...
