Photobook exported to PDF: total mess

Hi,

I experience problems while creating photobooks in Photos 1.2 (340.4.0) /El Capitan 10.11.1, Macbook Pro late 2011, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD disk/. When i place photos during creation of the book it all seems ok, until I export to PDF - which is total mess.

In the PDF, background images are mostly missing, some pictures too, pages are sometimes in wrong order. It happened repeatedly, I even tried different book templates. I repaired the Photos library, restarted, etc., nothing seems to help.

While exported PDFs are so screwed, I have no courage to place order for 90,- EUR photobook, even if it looks OK in the Photos app 😟

I used to use Aperture, where exported PDFs were always OK.

The computer is in good condition, everything else works right.

Is there a solution?

Good catch. Slipped my mind.

Mrakoplas: try the following:

1- - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.Photos

User uploaded file

This will also delete the Photos preference file.

2 - reboot, launch Photos and try again.

NOTE: For Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

User uploaded file

where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

I suggest you try to continue to use iPhoto on your iPhoto library to complete the book. iPhoto wasn't deleted from your hard drive. It was just removed from the Dock and is still in the Applications folder. In order to get iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store you first must have some version of iPhoto 9.X on your hard drive. If you do try following Terence Devlin's instructions in this post to obtain iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If iPhoto 9.6.1 is there, close the App Store, drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash and then go back to the App Store.

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

NOTE: the key to this procedure is to move the existing version of iPhoto 9 to the Trash bin in the Dock (don't empty yet) before going to the App Store.
