Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

Sounds like there are two possible solutions, 1. try a different cable (I've had success with an Apple TV 4 cable) Or 2. Try to install the beta of iOS 9.2.3 as that seems to be fixing it for people as well. I myself am using 9.1 and the Apple TV 4 cable and not had any lock ups since. I have not had any lockups since switching cables. I think there's a problem with some of the cables being shipped with the iPad pro's.

I tried airplane mode and still had to hard reset this morning.

I dont have an Apple TV charging cable to try and really don't feel like putting beta software on my new iPad.

Also setting up as a new device didn't work for me, nor should it be a solution that is acceptable. Would you think formatting a macbook to solve an issue and losing all your data and starting over is acceptable?

Yah I don't agree with having to put beta software on it either. That's why I'm trying the cable route. Understood that you don't have the cable either, I just wanted to put it out there in the hopes that an Apple person sees it and sees that so far reliably the cable is having problems. It may be only some of the cables, but I believe they shipped out either faulty cables, or there's an issue with some of the cables and ios 9.1. Not sure which yet. I haven't tried it with an iphone 6s cable yet but wanted to make the point that I was using the apple tv 4 cable so that there was clarity with which cable I've been having success with knowing that every time I use the INCLUDED ipad pro cable it causes the black screen lockup forcing a hard reset, but using the specific apple tv 4 cable is not causing this issue. (It may also have to do with the length of the cable since the ipad pro one is much longer than an iphone or apple tv 4 remote charging cable).

My main point also in doing this is because I spent a terrible week with a surface book pro with all kinds of video driver app problems and shutdowns and NEVER found a solution, thus returned it. To date I still haven't seen anyone come up with any reliable solutions, nor has MS fixed it yet. I'm hoping Apple's IOS 9.2 is the software fix that does actually fix it, otherwise, they need to do a cable replacement or recall for the ipad Pro because I'm 98% positive that's the issue. Also, these are not the normal serial like cables of old. There's a lot more technology involved in the actual cables, and they're not just a couple of wires strung through some rubber so Apple needs to look at it and hopefully fix that.

Also, my point in posting this is to hopefully show that this issue isn't a show stopper and can most likely be fixed if Apple replaces the cables, swaps them out, or does something as simple as that. Hopefully this will get to the Genius Bar so that they can test it, verify it, and start helping people who come in with this problem with an actual solution.

Had the iPad pro since Friday. Same problem however I've used 2 different cables my iPad Air 2 and the new iPad pro cable. Not sure it's a cable thing. I haven't tried airplane mode i will tonight. The good news is I thought it was just mine and was about to return it For a new one. wish they would respond to this thread to tell us what is going on I.e software or hardware.....
