Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

Just so you know. I just spent the last half hour on the phone with Apple Tech support where they hooked up to my pc with my iPad Pro attached to it and downloaded my Apple files for a diagnostics review. This is my second iPad Pro and it's doing the same thing my first one did. I will post the results here when they contact me with their findings. I hope to have good news whenever that is. Stand by, but it may be a while or days, who knows?

Got a 32gb Pro on Friday. Set up as new. First charge to 100% did fine. After charging last night the iPad was frozen when I got home from work today. Had to do hard reboot a few times to get it to come on. Hopefully something minor.

BTW, does the Pro have the ability to sleep/wake when you open/close a case that has the built in magnets? I don't see the wake/sleep thing anywhere in Settings/General. Thanks

I had this issue, too after upgrading from an Air. I restored to factory settings using iTunes, which replaced the base software, then reinstalled the backup from my Air. That was yesterday morning and I have not had the problem repeat and it seems solved. Seems some of the factory installed software may have a bug that clears, but it requires iTunes so you download it and reinstall it fresh first. Then load in your backup.

I figure that the problem must be related to some housekeeping tasks that iOS does when the device has reached full charge.

I've had success by doing the following;

  • disabled backup to iCloud
  • Under settings --> Privacy --> Diagnostics & Usage, set "Don't send"
  • I enabled Siri and "Hey Siri" which by default were both disabled.
  • Turned off "Do not disturb", Manual and scheduled.

Most of the above settings would be disabled by placing the iPad in flight mode, so I'd bet that the issue can be narrowed down to something in this list.

So far, I've gone 24 hours without problems and I have been trying to replicate the bug by keeping the iPad on charge at 100%. So until iOS 9.2 is released, this seems to have worked for me.

I received the Ipad Pro 128GB silver on Thursday, Nov 12. I hadn't even had it long enough to charge fully or connect to ITunes. Only factory installed apps, on it and now, I cannot get it to respond. Screen is black. I tried various plugs, even tried contacting to my iMac- nothing. I can't get into the Genius Bar until Wednesday morning, Nov 18. I sure hope they have a resolution. I thought I was alone in this issue, until I found this thread.
