Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

I Posted before and I too have the problem. 2 things. I've used different cables to charge and it happened with each. I do notice that everyone posting seems to have a 128gb with cellular. is anyone having this problem with 32 gb and if you have cellular did you take the SIM card from the other divice or is it a new sim.. I took mine from old iPad air2. Wondering if there is a connection..... Apple lets go some answers?????

iPad Pro 128 GB Wi-Fi. As many users here, I'm having the same issue - I just wanted to add that the first two nights I had the iPad Pro I had connected it using my older iPad's charger & cord and both nights I'm fairly certain I had some big downloads as well - iMovie, Keynote etc... over 650MB or more of downloads - not sure that has anything to do with this issue, but thought it worth mentioning. On a side note, I only sync to my iMac 5K when connected - I do not sync over Wi-Fi nor do I sync to iCloud - since I've read some folks say stop syncing to iCloud to fix the issue - I never have yet still had the issue. To recap - my first 2 nights had big downloads while charging using my older iPad's connecter/charger to wall outlet. Both mornings had to do hard restart. Then, I started using the new lightning cable/charger and have not had any major downloads. I have not had it happen since - not to say it will not happen again - but my initial thought was it was related to heavy downloads? I'm on a slow DSL network using older gen Airports. Not very scientific, but it is my current thinking.

It seems that the problem is not necessarily related to charging the device, but to a bug with iCloud backup. iOS will backup to iCloud when connected to a wireless network and charging at the same time. And charging the device overnight will surely reproduce this crash...

Can anyone else confirm this by disabling their backups temporarily and overnight?

nmdias, I have never done a backup to iCloud - I only manually backup and sync when syncing to my connected iMac. But I am still having the issue after overnight charging - waking to black screen needing to do a hard restart. HOWEVER, as I wrote in my previous post, I do wonder if it is related to big downloads while charging at night - seems to be related in my case when I've downloaded app updates at night while charging - not exactly and iCloud issue.

128 G wifi cellular, icloud backup off, use itunes for backup, setup as new, plugged in overnight Friday, Saturday with no problem. I think it was under 40% both nights but not much lower. I don't have a cellular sim in so its just doing wifi right now. I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones with no problem. However it has had problems doing updates or downloading apps, the downloads seem to freeze, so i have been using iTunes to get them onto the device.

Finally found this thread and it makes me feel better that I am not the only one having this issue. 128gb pro wifi. Tried from backup first, and then set up as new, with same results. I ended up taking it back today and getting a new unit. Will report if it keeps happening. If it does, then I will try airplane mode or turning off handoff. Thanks for everyones comments so far.

Exactly the same issues with my 128gb iPad pro. Mine has now shut down each morning after charging through the night. Ipad pro will not open. Hard reset (pressing sleep and home button for 10 secs) starts machine up again. Speaking to Apple senior technician he said take back to store for replacement.

Am happy to do this only with the knowledge that the issue is fixed for good. No point in changing to another iPad if exactly the same thing happens in 24 hours time. Setting up an iPad is easy but time consuming.

One thing that is s is also surprising is that if you close iPad pro using the smart cover, the Volume icon disappears when trying to adjust volume. Does not affect sound affects icon, which is bizarre. The volume goes up and down but there is no visual display. To remedy, you have to press sleep button to turn off display. Turn back on again. Come out of lock screen and go to music or Youtube and miraculously the volume buttons work again. If you use the smart cover again the icons will disappear again. SOOOOOO frustrating.

I checked on my old iPad and same thing happened. I am surprised there are not more posts. This is a software issue surely??

Seems the new iTunes has more than one glitch!!

I am having this same issue on my iPad Pro 128/cellular+wifi. Three times I have left it charge overnight, and 3 times I have woken up only to have to do a hard reset to start it up. I am actually using the wall charger for my 6S Plus, not the cord the iPad came with. Restoring it as new is not an option as I have a ton of apps and I haven't used iTunes in ages. Apple really needs to fix this soon!!! 😠

This issue is not unique to the Pro as you found out by testing your other iPad. It affects the Air 2 and mini 2 (at least, I don't have the others to test). This issue started beginning with iOS 9 and has still not been resolved. See these topics for more info:
