Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

I just stumbled across this forum while searching for a supposed firmware update for the iPad pro. (I received notification of this...) I have an iPad Pro (128gb WIFI + cellular in a Logitech Create keyboard/case, active on AT&T's network as well as WIFI), and I haven't had the slightest indication of what people here are reporting. I charge it every night using the charging block it came with, but with the lightning cable from my iPad Air 2. The cable that came with the IPP is on my iMac and hasn't been used since I set it up from the backup of my iPad Air 2 on 11/12. I don't know if I'm just fortunate, it's the cable or some other reason, but I hope that doesn't change. By the way, I haven't found or installed the iOS 9.2 beta.

Had the same trouble here, overnight charge and the iPad was compleet off. 128GB version. Contacted Apple and the advise was to install as a new iPad in iTunes. This did not solve the problem. After that the Apple helpdesk suggested to bring in the iPad and change it for a new one. I suggested to the Helpdesk to use my develloper account and install IOS 9.2 beta 3 and then check iff this will help. After installing 9.2 beta 3 and charge overnight to 100% no problem anymore. So this is not hardware related but this is firmware related. This morning used the iPad and reload again and everything works fine now. Hope this will help for all people wit the same trouble and are able to install the beta.

I am in the UK and got my iPad Pro on Friday, as they were only released here a day before - same thing for me after charging it was just dead - it seems Apple have a problem and they know about it but why didn't support tell me about dead starting it - however I thinks its dreadful that a new product is sent with a defect and I am certainly returning it to make the point and won't just be searching forums etc to get it up and running - its an expensive unit and its Apple's problem and not mine! Someone else reported previously on this post that they did not have the problem after switching cables.

I received my 128GB gold Verizon cellular iPad Pro Monday, and restored it from my iPad 2 backup in iCloud. I plugged it in for an overnight charge, and it was bricked the next morning, I had to do a hard reset. I reported it to a Sr Apple advisor yesterday, and sent her a link to this post so she could see everyone having the same problem. She believes IOS 9.02 will be released very soon because of this, possibly as early as this week.

Anyhow, last night, I swapped my charging cable and used a 3' AmazonBasics cable to charge it lieu of the 6' cable that it came with. This morning, it fired up without a hitch. So now i'm wondering if that is just a coincidence, or if somehow the 6' cable is an issue? It doesn't make sense to me how it could be, but, I didn't have the problem this morning after NOT using it. It would be a good idea for others here to try it too and see if it works.

Did you backup from iCloud? And if so, did it happen the first night, while iCloud might have been finishing the restore, and then brick the next morning? Just a theory, but perhaps the next day it was finished restoring from the cloud, and then it wasn't doing any of that the next night and thus didn't have the problem.

My scenario is the above, except that I did swap cables and used a different cable the 2nd night. I don't know if that helped, or if it was because iCloud backup was not doing any further restoring.

My local Apple Store replaced my 128GB wi-fi+cellular iPad Pro and the second one worked fine the first night but then, after I loaded a bunch more apps on it, I experienced the same problem when I woke up this morning. In both cases I started them as new iPads from scratch rather than restoring. But in the second case I didn't have time to really download all the apps I need before the first evening charge. It seems loading up the iPad with stuff is what triggers this.

I'm downloading the public beta.

BTW, anyone can sign up for the public beta - just go to https://beta.apple.com

Also - the Apple Pencil is just totally amazing! It really transforms the iPad Pro for any sort of applications where you're marking up, or editing, images!
