Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

I've given up in disgust with mine. I have sent it back to Apple for a full refund, and revert to my ipad air 2.

For such a high value item, following the mega-hype, Apple should have sorted this before releasing the ipad.

It is not good enough for Apple to say they are aware of a bug in the ipads and 'are looking into it',

I wasnt going to waste anymore of my time trying to re-boot, or enable Siri, etc.....back its gone.

I hope the expected ipad air 3, when released, will live up to expectations. Being an Apple nut, I shall by that, God help Apple if that too fails at the first hurdle.

This thread is primarily regarding a full charge and then subsequent black screen that does not appear to turn on, but requires a hard restart (holding the power and home button down for more than 10 seconds until the apple logo appears). This isn't a thread regarding obviously defective ipads that lock up constantly where you can't use them at all (not saying there aren't ipads that do that, but by all means if that's what yours is doing, get a refund or replacement). We're talking about an issue that needs to be fixed for a QoL issue (i.e., I shouldn't have to "turn on" my iPad like I shut it down each night), not a defective item like a surface book that isn't useable because the video driver's from Intel haven't been released yet so don't undock it and then redock it or you will crash your system completely. Or even something like a bad intel video driver that causes your screen to start scrambling when you scroll halfway down a web page causing you to restart your computer every few minutes. This is a 20 second hard restart that is required if you're iPad pro is charged to full on the charger and something (most likely software related) causes the inputs to be ignored so the screen doesn't turn on. Once hard reset, the problem shouldn't manifest itself again for 10 hours because you have a 10 hour battery life and you shouldn't be running this plugged in like a laptop anyway (it's a tablet).

Mostly though I'm trying to make the point that if you're not seeing the issue of fully charged, black screen then you may want to start a new thread about a constantly locked up ipad pro when in use. Otherwise your post will probably just be overlooked as the same thing everyone else here is experiencing, and not something completely different (which it sounds like it is).

IIt's the 100% charge/left overnight problem. It's fine when I use it, but I don't have time to babysit my iPad while it charges. I plug it in at night expecting it to be ready the next morning.

In the grand scheme of things the 20 second reboot is not a problem, but it makes me worry that my $1000 premium tablet is defective. Early adopter headaches I guess. Software glitch, fine. But if it turns out to be a faulty board then we are all swapping out our new iPads for refurbs in a couple of weeks.

Of course now I'm tempted to get the AppleCare because I don't trust the hardware. Maybe that's their plan...

I kid.

Well, the 14 day is pretty much a window that says, "This is crap I hate it, take it back". i.e. you don't have to have a reason to return it, you can just return it. Every apple hardware item I've had has a 90 day full warranty that pretty much says if something's wrong with the product in 90 days they're going to make it right and I've had issues with new products on occasion and they have made it right in that window. The 1 year limited warranty generally gets treated the same, but is stated that way because if your dog pees on your iPad during that window they're not obligated to replace it... (my point being that in the past I've had a child come into my room while I was sleeping because they were sick, and threw up near a month old iphone (getting particles stuck in the microphone) causing my iphone to quit working in a useful capacity, and because I was in the 90 day window and the Apple genius replaced it for me pretty much after I was done explaining what happened.

I'm sure that this issue is something for which a software resolution is going to fix, but if it's a hardware issue we do have a 1 year warranty on it. Defective screens, switches, boards, etc, would fall under that warranty.

As a data point, I have not encountered the problem central to this thread.

Some of my particulars are: 128 GB cell, Siri enabled, started off with back up via iTunes from my iPad Air, only charges so far have been done with my pc or from an battery back-up outlet but not using the new iPad Pro cable, I am using Logitech Create keyboard, and so on.

I actually have not encountered any problems with my iPad Pro. I wanted SG but had to order silver as I have not been able to locate a SG with AT&T Next that would be available before my international trip next week.

I'll just add that I checked my iCloud backup settings, it's never backed up to iCloud even though it's set to do that, maybe it's getting stuck trying to backup when plugged in. I did a manual backup. I also turned on 'hey siri' although I'm still not sure I'm going to yell at my iPad when it's plugged in. I had to turn it off on my phone because too many times it heard a phrase that sounded similar on the radio and turned on inadvertently, and then when I actually try to use the feature she ignores me.

I'll leave it plugged in today and see what happens.

Unsure if it started out as a hardware issue, but with so many people affected hopefully a software fix will resolve it (can you imagine the chaos if all those affected had to return their iPad Pro for a replacement? How about people like me who ordered custom engraving?).

Has anyone updated to iOS 9.2 beta and the problem *NOT* resolved?

Hi Gang,

Finally got hold off my LTE Silver Pro yesterday; I topped the initial charge to 100% and have been keeping it plugged (just for the time being) and I am pleased to report that I have not experienced anything.

On the things worth of noting, I set it up as a new iPad (my preference), hence no iCloud backup. I am using the Pro's charger, but coupled with certified mophie's lightning cable (9ft-long - my preference as most of us use it in the household).

Personally, I am almost certain that this is a software issue.

Cheers & good luck y'all.
