Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

FIX: Apple support had me restore Ipad via iTunes and set up as new not with any back up. This fixed the issue. I would say there still needs to be a software

update but they found that when they had me run a diagnostic there was a corruption in the back up..

So basically restore ipad and redownload iOS 9.1 with iTunes, and set up as new. Took about an hour.

The pencil is amazing. I just got mine this last weekend via fedex. Pretty much opens the ipad up to being an amazing canvas for all things art. If people are looking for an alternate navigation device then they'll be sorely disappointed, but then again, there's a reason Apple is using the pencil moniker, since people think of stylus as a navigational tool, whereas no one thinks a pencil is a navigational tool (although, the press seems to want to keep calling it an iStylus).

FINAL IOS 9.2 Public Release test for all who care (test 5):

6 hours of charging with nothing on but airplane mode (wifi off, bluetooth off, nightmode off, mute off, screen rotate off, hey siri off). No lockups, no black screen, prompt display of the screen when the home button is pressed. Charger still plugged into iPad. Unplugging charger causes the screen to turn on briefly indicating normal use-age.

So, it seems that all the things that were mentioned in regards to locking up appear to be resolved with the IOS 9.2 public release. If you're reading this and are unsure of any other tests just read my past posts as I have outlined 5 other tests that I've done with varying options to see if the IOS 9.2 public release appears to fix other use cases.

Hi varchar and Graeme S,

I partially agree with you.

But it is not only the iPad Pro issue which makes me angry. Under iOS 9.1, there was a Mail-bug for POP3-accounts ("this email could not loaded from server" (or similar message)) causing many mails to vanish from my iPad. And "El Capitan" on OS X prevented almost all my AU-Plugins (Audio Units Plugins for Logic Pro X) to be loaded correctly.

Therefore two basic functions were faulty. And in addition, my new iPad was dead every morning. Hence I lost my love to Apple! They are launching a lot of new features (to increase the sales) but thereby many old features are destroyed because there is no time to test them sufficiently before pushing these new product (or software features) to the market. - But I agree that this is a common phenomenon today also in other companies. UNFORTUNATELY!!!

My suggestion would be to create a new thread about the backups not working. You started this thread about a charge and then black screen. That's where this entire thread has been focused. It's pretty much like saying my engine's not running on a car, then getting that fixed then saying, the problem's not fixed because now my left rear tire won't stay inflated.

Also you need to provide more information. i.e. "My backups aren't running after I installed IOS 9.2 on my ipad pro lte 128GB, wifi off, bluetooth off, siri off, hey siri off, airplane mode on, not signed into icloud, router is a netgear ws360, internet is time warner 1mbps..."

Just saying something like "My backups don't work" doesn't help anyone, and won't get any response from a company that's focused on hundreds of other things. I can guarantee that any developer that sees a statement without anything to help them replicate the problem or delve into the problem with some specific settings will just look at that and assume you've not set something up right, or don't know how to use the product...

Also the title of the thread that you started was:

Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Pretty sure we can all say that this issue based on the title alone is now fixed with IOS 9.2. Those of us that have been helping troubleshoot this have run multiple tests utilizing tons of different settings to attempt to replicate the problem back onto IOS 9.2 without success, showing that IOS 9.2 does indeed fix the problem as outlined in the title of the thread.

I'm not saying you're not having a problem, just trying to point out that if you want help, you will get more by focusing a thread on that problem so others can find it via searching, news outlets can pick up on it via searching, and Apple will pick up on it by seeing it as a thread vs having to hunt through hundreds of messages in a thread that has nothing to do with that. The very first post that you started this thread with had nothing to do with backups failing, and the title has nothing about backups in it. That's all I'm saying. I definitely hope you can get that fixed, or that you can bring it to someone at Apple's attention, just do it in a way that brings visibility to it, and provide information to those people who could help you.

Yep, I noted that you started the thread in my reply.

Also as a note, my backup has been running every day through icloud. No lockups, no freezes. I've tested with 6 of the most prominent settings that people have posted in this thread as causing a lockup and haven't had any issues with lockups/freezing on charge.

If your ipad pro's not backing up, you should take it to a genius bar and see if they can help you sort out any icloud issues you might be having to see if that's the cause of the failed backups.

My point is that the black screen on full charge is resolved. Create a new thread about the backups not working as that's most likely a different issue. Enabling and disabling the backups was proven to have no effect on the tons of other people here that were having the screen lockup issue on full charge.
