Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

I was using mine during the daytime, plugged in to the charger. When it got to 98%, it locked up, with the screen still visible. On hard reset, it was at 100%.

It seems to me that it hung up very close to the moment when it went to 100%.

Turning ON Hey Siri has solved the problem for me on 3 full charges. Note that on the iPad Hey Siri is only active when it's plugged in.

So the only solution to prevent an iPad from crashing WHILE CHARGING is to put it in flight mode and turn on "Hey Siri". Amazing! This looks like an enormous blunder by Apple, which they are currently being very coy about. It does make you wonder to what extent the device was actually tested, as crashing during overnight charging should have been a fairly easy thing to spot...

I have looked at all threads to date. Various "fixes" seem to help some users, but no fix (other than 9.2 beta) solves the problem. I have been using my iPad Pro since day one with the same initial problem. Clearly the unit crashes and hangs while charging. As a temporary fix, just shut the unit down at night before charging. I have done this for the past several days, and it starts up quickly in the morning. MUCH quicker than a hard reset and no crashing. Of course, no nightly backups or app updates, so you have to do these during the day. I think this is a satisfactory temporary work around until 9.2 is officially released.

well as promised i am providing an updated. I have the ipad pro 128 wi-fi --cellular model. it did the usual black screen after recharging the first two nights I had it. Then, after I did a hard reset, I let the pro stay on a few hours, then I turned on "Hey Siri", followed by shutting the ipad down by pressing the sleep button and sliding the off button off. for 10 days the ipad pro has worked like a charm. It seems like thee are two or three options that gets the pro working properly. I think the ultimate fix will be 9.2. (I have 9.1). Rudy

SSame problem here, I bought 2 iPad Pros, 128gig with LTE. My wife's has had no problems, mine of course is the one that I have to do the hard reset. Funny thing is it does not happen every time. When I went to the Apple Store 2 weeks ago t7he genius asked if I wanted to exchange for a new one, I am thinking about going back and just get a new one at this point.

I purchased two iPad Pros last weekend from Best Buy. Both are having the same issue. At first I thought I was doing something wrong, as well as hiring an electrician to check my electric thinking the outlet was burning the iPads out. I returned both to iPads to Best Buy's Geek Squad who were equally puzzled. This blog helped me understand the issue, which I will be relaying to my local Geek Squad support team. Big miss on Apple's part.

Hi There,

My new ipad pro has the same problem, but so far only when it is connected to the smart keyboard. When the smart keyboard is not connected, the ipad charges just fine, no reboot needed. I had my ipad pro over a week, charging fine, and as soon as I got the keyboard, and I charged with the keyboard, the problem started. Now I am back to charging without the keyboard, and it charges fine again, no hard reboot needed, so far.

Best,

G
