Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

I am on my THIRD iPad Pro!! Hoping the 3rd one works!! The first one I had required a hard restart after charging each time. That doesn't give you a good feeling having to do numerous hard restarts on your brand new tablet. There were some other issues, as well, so I returned it to Apple. Got a second one, and after charging it, it just DIED. There is NO waking it up no matter WHAT I do - I've done everything suggested and have tried every possible combination of buttons. It's just dead. I will have to return the dead one to Apple and in the meantime, just got a new one I'm trying out. It's frustrating in that I will be returning the table, but can't even turn it on to erase all of the content, should it still be there. I'm hoping the THIRD one works properly, but am skeptical. It's so disappointing. I've NEVER had a problem with an Apple product and have been using them for years and years. I have faith, however, that they will find out what the problem is, but STILL...all the time and effort this has required is frustrating, to say the least.

It's a software issue that has been and will be resolved in the next update. If you are never, ever going to buy a device that has a software glitch then you're never, ever going to buy any software related device. Good luck using your new abacus.

There's a difference between a glitch and a problem which gives the appearance of a total lack of testing. You guys have paid a lot of money for a device which needs resetting every time you charge it overnight, which is pretty much when anyone charges their device. How something so basic managed to get through to production and then on sale is beyond me. And Apple's response does not appear to have been stellar either; very little in the way of acknowledgement of the extent of the problem and even less about the fix.

papjo: It's a software issue that has been and will be resolved in the next update.

Then Apple should have waited to release it after the problem was solved. Why so defensive of Apple?

varchar: This thread is about the ipad pro having a black screen (a non waking screen) after a full charge.

Yup, I knew that.

If the apple logo doesn't show up after that time then you have a hardware issue which should be fixed by exchanging the ipad.

Yup, no apple logo. Nope, don't want another one, ever. Getting a refund. ASUS looks good.

techfan1550: What are we suppose to do? Ask for the refund?

That's what I did, techfan. ASUS looks good.

tdtdbazinga: STILL...all the time and effort this has required is frustrating, to say the least.

Exactly. And not worth it.

flibbertygibbet: How something so basic managed to get through to production and then on sale is beyond me.

Bingo, my point exactly. All the loyalty to and defense of Apple in the world doesn't wipe away this very salient fact.

QUit shilling for asus please. This thread is about bringing visibility to an issue so that it is fixed in the next update of iOS. The people contributing to the conversation either have the problem as described and are looking for some sort of fix or interim fix, or they are attempting to help others fix the problem or give them hope about an upcoming resolution to it. Shilling another company's product isn't useful, and only shows that you really just dislike the apple products in the first place.

Also, to the people that say I can't believe you have to restart every night, you don't have to. The majority of people in here have been able to resolve the issue temporarily by turning on siri and hey Siri. I've not had the issue occur again myself since doing that. Either way, Apple acknowledged the issue faster than Microsoft has acknowledged their surface book issues (a product that at it's top end is 2.5x more expensive than a top end iPad pro).

IF you are in this thread, reading posts from people shilling other products, the rule of thumb on the Internet is that in a help forum, if you come across people posting about using a different product multiple times, then they're getting paid to shill that other product.

IF we were to use ignatz logic then people should return every other tablet on the market for the fact that they have to be reset or on their first bsod. There is no os immune to software glitches.

AS far as being defensive in this thread; no one is being defensive, we're trying to ensure that outside third party company shills aren't hijacking the information provided in this thread with constant bombardment of get a different product messages when there's an easy temporary fix, an official statement from apple that they're working on it, and a potential fix on the horizon with an imminent release of iOS 9.2.

Nope, no shilling. Nice try, though.

I just thought there was freedom of speech here. My mistake.

Meanwhile, you defend Apple with every breath. Hilarious.

No biggie. I no longer have the problem, since I soon won't have the product and never will again.

You can preach your fatuous workarounds all you like, the fact remains - I notice you're not taking to task the others with the same observation - is that Apple should have fixed the problem before foisting a product on the consumer that wasn't ready for use.

Defend on, var.

ignatz, nothing personal but if you don't have the product and can't contribute to the conversation seeking a solution to the topic at hand perhaps your time would be better spent at http://www.asus.com/us/support/ than it is here; quoting every other post and typing out your best one line zinger. The pain and anger will soon be over for you, you'll get your money back and won't have an iPad Pro... congrats!

I bought 2 ipad pro 128 wifi cellular. Gifted one to my mom. She never unplugs hers from the charger. Does not have Siri on. Has only had the issue one morning. Mine had to be restarted every morning. I sent it back. The replacement I got 5 days ago works perfect. No issue even if Siri is off. If it is a software issue I wonder if it matters which plant they are being made at. Maybe one of the plants has a corrupt program?

saying asus as many times as you did in a post sounds like shilling to me.

it's a company's forum. no one said anything about freedom of speech here.

yes.

why are you here then? you have some vested interest, and since you're here and are returning the product with constant bombardment of another company's name then you are shilling.

fatuous like your posts are? The workarounds aren't silly and we're talking about turning a toggle on so that we don't have to do a restart that takes 15 seconds once a day.... OHHHHHHhhhhhhh nooooooooo.

i will.

No one is "defending" Apple, there is no need. I never had the issue on my Pro, but I know others who have and who participate in the beta and their issue was resolved. I've never had any device or service that was software related that did not have one issue or another at sometime. I'm 65 years old and have used a lot of different software devices from various manufacturers. If I wanted to trash every company that had a product with a bug I would have absolutely no life as apparently some here don't.

Even with this bug the device is fully functional. If you are returning or have apparently, you really neither needed nor wanted it. And that's fine. No one forced you to buy it nor keep it. But touting another device that won't be any better for most, maybe for you, and if so good luck, is not helpful to anyone. But when you run into the bugs on it don't waste your life or anyone else's time ranting. Talking to a therapist would be a better use of your time.

This particular issue also hit some of us on our iPhone 6S when it was released. It only happened once to me and after 9.1 I've not had the issue recur. I guess I should have returned it and bought an Android device and then come here and ranted. But a therapist would have been more helpful. Think about it.

I'm glad that's working for most. That's what forums like this are for, to find out what others have tried and what worked or didn't. Much better than all the erasing, restoring, setting up as new and other time consuming steps that may make things worse or at the least cause quite a headache.

This is a pretty simple step until the update is released.
