Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

It's impossible to tell from the anecdotes given here how widespread this problem is. I'm hoping that users who are NOT having this problem will start to post their experiences, because without that information, it's starting to feel like this bug is present in nearly all new iPad Pros, That seems very unlikely, though, as that would almost surely have led to a delay in the launch date. For a while here, therefore, please chime in with more results, both "I have the problem" and "I do NOT have the problem." Until those are available, we who have not yet ordered our Pros will have little choice but to postpone our purchases

Hi there,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue with this rather fantastic device. Upon reviewing the posts of this thread I failed to notice if setting up the Pro as a brand new iPad (not restoring from an iCloud backup) helps in eliminating that issue.

Although, it is quite possible that this is a hardware problem, the sheer uniformity of symptoms seem to indicate a software bug (firmware, perhaps) rather than effective unit.

Let us know, please.

Cheers!

Users who have a perfectly functioning device will rarely come to post how well their device is working on a troubleshooting forum.

Sort of true, but many of us peruse the forum looking for tips or problems we might not have discovered as well as with problems that do not include this issue with the iPad Pro crashing when charging. All posts have many, many more views than replies, if you've ever noticed, and it's those folks I asked to chime in. I don't honestly see how your reply was helpful to the discussion

contacted apple support and made them aware of this thread and problem this morning. They will contact me tomorrow or next week and check if resorting iPad and setting up as new will fix it. Still haven't charged it to 100% yet to see if it has been fixed. The senior iOS advisor strongly feels that there will be another update. He conveyed my input to engineering. It would be good to call and report this issue individually so that they know there is a problem out there. I spent 20 minutes on the phone.

The purpose of this thread is to form a big list of people who are experiencing this problem and hopefully get Apple's attention. Posting that you did not experience this problem takes the needed focus away. Let's not write off this valid issue that many have been experiencing.

Given how many have posted, this seems clear to be a firmware issue that can only be solved with a software update, in my humble opinion.
